JOB SUMMARY

Oversee and help implement policies as regulated by the Tennessee Middle School Athletic Association, County Athletic Handbook, and School Administration. The athletic director will need to communicate with coaches to ensure school, county, and state policies are being followed. Will be required to be at all home games or have a school administrator there in your place. Must coordinate scheduling with coaches, opponents, and the school calendar to ensure dates do not overlap as much as possible. Will need to make sure all athletes are meeting qualifications (grades, conduct, and cooperation with faculty) in order to play each sport, as well as meet with and redirect students’ efforts for those who are not passing classes. The athletic director will need to ensure that teams have the resources they need for fundraising, equipment, and student and team requirements, as stated in the Cannon County Athletic Handbook and the TMSAA Handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Shall hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education, Sports Management, or related field. 2. A minimum of three (3) years of coaching experience or evidence of experience with school athletics. 3. Teaching experience preferred. 4. Organizational skills. 5. Communication skills. 6. Proficient in the use of technology.

Middle School Coaches, Assistant Coaches, and Student Athletes

JOB GOAL

The Athletic Director plans, coordinates, implements, supervises, and evaluates all aspects of the Cannon County Middle School athletic program.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

On game days, it is important that the athletic director make sure the functions are running smoothly so that the coaches may coach and that the players/parents can enjoy the event. During the school day, the athletic director will need to communicate with teachers/administration based on the need for help handle athlete issues with grades and behavior and administer punishments based on school policy and the Cannon County Athletic Handbook. Must work with Cannon County High School Athletic Director in order to make sure shared spaces are well managed and taken care of, also ensuring that fields/arenas are available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In conjunction with the school principal, the school athletic director will be responsible for: 1. Help with hiring and oversight of all coaches. 2. Insuring coaches are properly registered and compliant with required certifications and training. 3. Oversee the Non-Faculty Staff application process. 4. Ensure player eligibility. 5. Ensure that all student participants have completed and submitted the required forms for participation. 6. Ensure that all students meet eligibility requirements and schedule tutoring and/or Instructional Focus time. 7. Oversee the process that allows Home School student participation. 8. Assist coaches in scheduling and managing facilities. 9. Assign extracurricular supplements. 10. Ensuring that each activity has an Emergency Action Plan in place for practice and games. 11. Oversee all game management. 12. Assisting coaches in acquiring and maintaining necessary equipment. 13. Serve as liaison between school and booster clubs. 14. Monitor facilities for safety compliance. 15. Regularly inform coaches of rules and regulations set forth by the TSSAA/TMSAA, CCS, and state law. 16. Assist coaches in securing game officials. 17. In conjunction with the school bookkeeper, oversee coaches in matters concerning funding, including fundraising, building maintenance, facilities usage fees, individual sport player fees, 18. Be familiar with the CCHS Athletic Handbook and TSSAA Athletic Guidelines, and guide coaches to compliance with all included in those documents.
