RePublic Schools is seeking an innovative, dynamic Director of Special Education (ELL) – Tennessee to lead our K-12 student support and ELL/ESL programs across our Nashville schools. The Director will set a vision that aligns with the RePublic mission, execute the program across our Tennessee campuses, develop school leaders in the student support program’s vision and execution, and champion our Core Values and Instructional Principles, specifically Lead for Racial Equity and All Means All. The Director of Special Education (ELL) s is responsible for bringing both this principle and this core value to life for all scholars in Tennessee. This position is based out of our Nashville home office. Limited travel within Tennessee may be required during the school year to support Student Support leaders, teacher development, and curriculum implementation. What You’ll Do Set the Vision for the Student Support Program. Define what it means to support all students, particularly Black and Brown scholars, through an anti-racist lens. Establish mindsets, instructional practices, and systems that ensure every learner receives the support they need to thrive. Lead the Execution of the Vision. Work with Special Education Teachers at each Nashville school to implement a high-impact, student-centered program that aligns with RePublic’s mission. Coordinate Core Student Support Program Systems. Ensure quality control of essential systems, including assessment, IEP management, instructional quality, and compliance reporting. Lead Professional Development. Partner with school-based Student Support teams to design and deliver professional development that builds instructional capacity, fosters equitable mindsets, and addresses biases to ensure all learners are effectively supported. Collaborate Across Content Areas. Work alongside the directors of math, literacy, and other academic leaders to integrate best practices for supporting diverse learners across all subjects. Observe and Coach. Conduct focused observations 2-4 times a month to refine instructional practices, strengthen program implementation, gather best practices, and pilot innovative student support initiatives. Support school leaders in co-observations and feedback to develop their instructional leadership. Analyze Data. Assess student performance data (e.g., student work, quizzes, interim assessments, state tests) to refine programming and provide targeted, high-impact professional development for teachers. Manage Diagnostics and Progress Monitoring. Develop and oversee systems to track and report progress for students with special needs. Ensure transparent communication with students, staff, and families, and manage the execution of all RTI (Response to Intervention) testing across Nashville schools. Select and Manage High-Quality Service Providers. Establish partnerships with external providers to ensure scholars receive exceptional and holistic support services. Oversee Compliance and Reporting. Ensure 100% compliance with IEPs, documentation, and reporting. Maintain strong relationships with district and state agencies that support student services. Build and Maintain Strong Relationships. Foster deep, trust-based relationships with Special Education Teachers, school leaders, and ELL teachers to drive program effectiveness and innovation. Experienced in Student Support. You have successfully led a student support program for at least two years and can articulate its impact on student success. You bring expertise in compliance, instruction, and program design, and ideally hold certification in SPED and/or ESL. An Exceptional Communicator and Influencer.
