Job DescriptionPosition Overview
The Director of Student Support Services is a network-level role that sits on the Academics team. This role works closely with school level personnel, specifically the Assistant Principals of Student Support Services. This position will manage and support our Exceptional Education, Response to Intervention (RTI-A), and 504 Plan programming across KIPP Nashville. The goal of this position is to close the academic performance gap between general education and special populations.
Responsibilities of the Director of Student Support Services include, but are not limited to:
Program Development and Supervision:
Lead the development and ongoing refinement of a long-term academic plan for the Exceptional Education, RTI-A, and 504 Plan programs at KIPP NashvilleCollaborate with APs of Student Support Services to progress monitor growth and achievement data for students with disabilities, students receiving tiered academic interventions, and additional education supports (ie. homebound services, alternative learning setting).Collaborate with Principals to monitor implementation fidelity of intervention programs Collaborate with Academics Team Members to provide recommendations on differentiating the Tier 1 curriculum so that all students have access to the curriculumSurface and disseminate best practices for providing interventions for students with disabilitiesEnsure the delivery of high-quality exceptional education services by developing internal staff, as well as evaluating outside service providersEvaluate the efficacy of related service providers and make recommendations to determine the strategy for providing related services at scale.
Provide direction to school staff on non-routine special education matters Maintain Federal and State Compliance in
Special Education:
Ensure compliance with, and prepare reports for all state, federal, and local agenciesEvaluate current school-based systems to ensure compliance and recommend standardized practices for managing compliance expectationsReview and update Exceptional Handbook and webpage, which documents policies, procedures, and regional operating guidelines Manage the
Operations of KN Exceptional Education Programs:
Coordinate and supervise the provision of contracted related servicesManage the regional exceptional education budget
Professional Development:
Prepare and lead meaningful professional development for KIPP Nashville staffProvide summer training to school based APs of Student Support Services, including train the trainer sessions to turnkey at schools. Develop school leaders, including APs of Student Support Services and Principals, through coaching and PD to build capacity to develop school-based special education staff
QualificationsDesired Qualifications:
4-6 years of work experience in Exceptional Education with 2 years of experience coaching or managing adultsDemonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of KIPP Nashville; comfort and willingness to actively participate in the KIPP Nashville communityStrong organizational skills and attention to detailExperience in leading and collaborating with high performing teams in the educational field B.A. or M.Ed. in Special Education preferred Desired CharacteristicsKeen analytical and problem solving skillsStrong organizational skills and attention to detailStrong time management and ability to prioritizeStrong judgment and decision-making skills Flexible and strong ability to manage competing prioritiesGoal and deadline-drivenTeam-player capable of working both collaboratively and independently Commitment to the mission of KIPP NashvilleAdditional InformationCompensationSalary range is $80,000 – $110,000This position is exempt, and will work and be compensated according to a 12 month administrative schedule. This is a hybrid role. Employees will be able to work both from home and are required to come into the school or office when needed for coaching sessions, observations, and professional development. Our offices are located in Nashville and Antioch. Robust benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance policy options. Application for these benefits may be made immediately upon employment. The policy is effective upon the first of the month following the first day of work.
The vacation package for salaried employees includes 29 paid days throughout the 12 month work schedule (including holidays, fall break, thanksgiving break, winter break). In addition, employees in this role are allotted 15 PTO days. Eligible staff members receive payment for unused PTO days at the end of the fiscal year.
Adoption/Parental Caregiver Leave- up to 10 weeks parental leave for the primary caregiver and 2 weeks parental leave for the secondary caregiver paid at 100%.Leaders are provided with laptop computers with access to the internet and or email to assist them in performing their job responsibilities.
