Job Description
The Advisor provides academic advising and administrative support for the students in the College, of Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences (CEHBS) Graduate Programs by ensuring students understand their degree requirements, facilitating timely graduation, and aligning advising practices with accreditation standards. This position also supports recruitment efforts, curriculum development, and event coordination while overseeing student services staff as well as maintaining essential program records.
The Advisor provides academic advising and administrative support for the students in the College, of Education, Health, and Behavioral Sciences (CEHBS) Graduate Programs by ensuring students understand their degree requirements, facilitating timely graduation, and aligning advising practices with accreditation standards. This position also supports recruitment efforts, curriculum development, and event coordination while overseeing student services staff as well as maintaining essential program records.
Responsibilities
Advises graduate students on academic programs, course selection, and degree requirements.
Monitors graduate student progress and provides guidance to ensure timely graduation.
Responds to inquiries including in-person, email, text, and phone calls from potential students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and community partners.
Ensures graduate student advising aligns with accreditation standards and university policies.
Provides information on policies and procedures to others in order to help explain/clarify problems, issues, or requests.
Supervises reporting and administrative record keeping to established university policies and procedures.
Assists with special compliance and academic problems. Supervises student services specialist.
Supervises all accounting and budgetary procedures.
Serves on college and university committees as assigned.
Develops affiliation agreements for graduate counseling student practicum and internship placements.
Maintains records, advising documentation, and electronic/hard copy materials.
Responsible for nominating scholarship recipients to Graduate Studies.
Coordinates outreach activities to engage prospective students.
Assists in the development and execution of recruitment strategies for CEHBS’ graduate programs.
Assists the Education Preparation Program and the Graduate Counseling Program as needed in the accreditation review preparation.
Supports curriculum development and change processes.
Develops, updates and maintains advising materials for all CEHBS graduate programs.
Ensures Graduate Faculty Applications are processed in a timely manner.
Serves as a liaison between CEHBS Graduate Programs and relevant curriculum committees.
Plans and coordinates all CEHBS Graduate Programs and Counseling Residency events including the CEHBS Graduation Hooding Ceremony that is held each semester.
Coordinates additional events by booking venues, planning menus, scheduling speakers, and preparing invitations.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
A minimum of two years advising experience
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Critical thinker, detail oriented, and excellent problem solver
Ability to self-start, adapt, and multi-task
Ability to organize, plan events, and recruit potential students
Knowledge in Microsoft Office, Banner, and proficient in utilizing social media systems
Ability to hire, train, and supervise employees
Must have or have the capability to obtain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in related field
Proficient in Oracle Cloud, Slate, FileMaker Pro and Adobe Suite
