Job Description
Vermont Lifestyle:
Nestled in the scenic hills of central Vermont, Braintree Elementary School is a small but vibrant learning community that blends academic excellence with deep-rooted values of nature-based, experiential education. Serving approximately 90 students in grades PreK-6, this unique rural school offers the rare opportunity to lead in a setting where every child is known, supported, and challenged to grow. Its proximity to the I-89 corridor provides easy access to the amenities of Montpelier and Barre, Vermont, as well as West Lebanon, New Hampshire. It’s just an hour from Burlington and about 2.5 hours to either Boston or Montreal—making it an ideal location for those seeking a high quality of life in a peaceful setting without sacrificing connection to vibrant cultural and urban centers.
As part of the Orange Southwest School District, Braintree Elementary balances the intimacy of a close-knit school with the backing and resources of a larger district. Its 17-acre campus provides an inspiring outdoor classroom, where students learn science through observation, participate in STEM challenges like school-wide marble runs, and engage in a thriving Farm to School program complete with gardens and a student-run farmstand.
The school has a strong academic reputation, with students consistently performing above state averages in math and reading. Enrichment opportunities, from drumming and yoga to artist residencies and leadership trainings, help foster creativity, wellness, and a strong sense of community.
Braintree Elementary’s next principal will join a deeply committed staff and an engaged community eager to continue the school’s legacy of innovation, connection to the land, and whole-child education. For an educational leader seeking purpose, impact, and the chance to shape something truly special, Braintree Elementary is more than a school—it’s a place to thrive.
