Position Summary:

An Elementary School Teacher is responsible for providing a nurturing and stimulating educational environment for young learners. They play a crucial role in shaping the academic, social, and emotional development of elementary school students. This position involves planning and delivering age-appropriate lessons, assessing student progress, and fostering a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere.

Bachelor’s degree; A master’s degree may be required for certain certified teacher positions Professional certificate in the area of responsibility issued by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to starting date Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach the Alabama Course of Study (ACOS) with fidelity Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with established procedures Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school Provide appropriate feedback on work Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies Maintain accurate and complete records of student’s progress and development Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations Prepare required reports on students and activities Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities and prepare the classroom for class activities Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities Observe and evaluate students’ performance and development. Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments Other duties as assigned by the school and/or district administrators

Ability to effectively present information to others and respond to students, parents, and staff. Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student matters. Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities. Ability to be professional in appearance, attitude, and demeanor. Ability to be punctual and comply with a precise work schedule. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum. Knowledge of current educational research. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
