Orlando Science Charter School seeks a dedicated Elementary School STEM Teacher to bridge the gap between elementary school foundations and rigorous high school coursework. Job Summary:
This role will create and maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning, providing positive educational experiences for all students. This role ensures the overall success of the school community within the framework of Board policies and state regulations. The primary duty involves performing work requiring advanced knowledge, predominantly intellectual in character, and includes the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment.
Essential Functions:
Develop comprehensive STEM Science curricula aligned with state and national standards, ensuring coverage of various scientific concepts and principles. Collaborate with administrators and coaches to design curricula that cater to students’ needs and interests. Create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment that sparks curiosity, encourages active participation, and promotes critical thinking skills. Teach effectively using the required textbooks and materials, following prescribed study units, and employing approved teaching methods. Promote students’ academic progress and instill values such as honesty, civility, and responsibility. Treat students with kindness and respect, administering discipline according to state and school policies and procedures. Utilize a student-centered approach with interactive discussions, problem-solving activities, and technology integration to enhance learning. Implement differentiated instruction to meet the individual needs and learning styles of all students. Maintain clear communication with parents, guardians, and administrators regarding student progress. Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student learning and provide constructive feedback. Continuously seek opportunities to improve your teaching practice through workshops, conferences, and ongoing self-reflection. Attend educational conferences as required by law, the Department of Education, or the Principal. Adhere to Florida Standards and state assessments. Develop lesson plans aligned with the Florida Standards and Instructional Focus Calendar. Comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and cooperate with school officials in enforcing school laws and regulations. Maintain accurate school records as required by state law and school policies. Participate in safety and emergency drills as prescribed by law and school policies and procedures. Ensure all school property is accounted for and returned upon closing or suspending school. Supervise students in the classroom, during lunch, recess, and other activities to ensure a safe and productive environment. Sponsor and support student clubs and extracurricular activities to enhance the overall educational experience. Work effectively with colleagues, specialists, and school leadership to ensure a cohesive educational program. Consider initiating or participating in STEM clubs, projects, or competitions to further student engagement. Perform other duties as assigned by the school administration.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Science or a related field Advanced knowledge in the field of education. Holder of State of Florida Letter of Eligibility, Temporary Certificate, or Professional Certificate. Strong understanding of STEM concepts and curriculum frameworks Experience creating engaging and differentiated lesson plans Effective classroom management skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Passion for fostering a love of STEM learning in elementary school students
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Education or a relevant field Experience teaching STEM courses Proficiency in integrating educational technology Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment
Physical Demands:
Regular verbal and written communication. Significant periods of standing and sitting. Occasional lifting and moving of up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
