Position Overview We’re looking for an enthusiastic, flexible, and purpose-driven Guide to lead a mixed-age group of elementary students in a learner-driven environment. Unlike traditional teaching roles, Guides do not prepare formal lesson plans, assign grades, or deliver lectures. Instead, they serve as mentors and facilitators—modeling curiosity, fostering a culture of respect and collaboration, and guiding students as they take ownership of their education. What You’ll Do Support learners as they pursue individualized academic, social-emotional, and creative goals Cultivate a safe, empowering space where children feel seen, heard, and valued Facilitate meaningful discussions, hands-on projects, and outdoor exploration Observe and reflect on each learner’s growth and help them set and evaluate personal goals Communicate regularly with families and collaborate with other Guides Encourage autonomy, kindness, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning What You Won’t Do Create daily lesson plans Deliver lectures Assign homework or grades Follow rigid curriculum pacing guides Standardize children’s progress Qualifications Certified as an Educator in the State of Florida (Prek-6th) Passion for working with children and supporting self-directed learning Growth mindset and strong communication skills Experience in education, coaching, or mentoring is a plus Comfort with flexibility, creativity, and stepping outside the traditional classroom model Must be reliable, collaborative, and aligned with the mission of Oakridge Academy Why Join Oakridge Academy?
