Responsibilities 1. Instruction You’llco-teach and build an engaging and joyful classroom environmentthat encourages mastery and empowers students to engage in academicdiscourse. You’ll teach the basic principles of mathematics. You’llteach reading and writing to build students’ literacy skills:phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, andcomprehension. You’ll teach an ELA curriculum that prioritizesmeaningful texts and topics that are interesting and relevant.
You’ll teach a Science curriculum that prioritizes knowledge ofgeology, astronomy, ecology, and cycles in nature to ensurestudents understand climate change and how to take care of theEarth. You’ll teach a Social Studies curriculum that incorporatesanalyses of America’s diverse histories, with an emphasis oncultural and civic awareness. 2. Data Analysis You’ll meet weeklywith your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze andrespond to trends in student work samples and assessments. You’lllearn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for alllearners in your classroom. 3. School Culture You’ll build positiverelationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, andheard. You’ll partner with students’ families to ensure appropriateresources are available to support their children’s learning needs.
You’ll engage in practice-based professional development,mentorship, and coaching sessions. You’ll support morning arrival,lunch duty, student assemblies, class transitions, and after-schooldismissal. You’ll participate in weekly, school-wide meetings tofoster community, model our core values, and encourage studentachievement. You’ll partner with your grade level team to developacademic goals and practice instructional strategies.

Required Experience:
A demonstrated interestin impacting K-12 students in urban schools and communities (1-2years experience preferred). Academic expertise in ElementaryEducation, Humanities, English, Social Sciences, or other relatedfields of study. Prior to the start of employment, you must have abachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Teachercertification is not a prerequisite for consideration at UncommonSchools in the state of NJ, but you do need to meet NJ statecertification eligibility requirements (a final undergraduate orgraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduates on or after 9/1/16, or2.75 if you graduated prior to 9/1/16). All instructional staff arerequired to become certified in the state of New Jersey within areasonable period after beginning employment. AdditionalInformation Our people are what make us Uncommon. Our compensation philosophy values equity & fairness andattracting & retaining top talent. Compensation Compensation forthis role is between $56,000 to $80,000. Starting pay is determinedusing various factors including but not limited to relevantfull-time teaching experience, education certifications, and tenurewith Uncommon Schools. Candidates without full-time Teachingexperience will likely have a starting salary of $56,000.
