Odyssey Charter School, Inc. in Palm Bay, Florida, is hiring an enthusiastic and dedicated Secondary English Teacher to join our award-winning team! We are looking for creative, compassionate teachers who love collaboration and have experience creating out-of-the-box learning opportunities, including yearly syllabuses, tests and quizzes, and at-home work that helps our students realize their full potential. Responsibilities:
Develop a yearly classroom curriculum and a list of resources that help students expand their learning capabilities and inspire them to strive for academic success. Collaborate with a team of educational professional in Professional Learning Communities. Foster a creative, supportive, and nurturing learning environment for young students. Provide coaching, guidance, and mentorship to help students excel. Prepare students academically and socially for the transition from elementary to middle and from middle to high school. Facilitate activities and conversations that build strong relationships and mutual respect between students and their instructors. Keep up to date on innovative teaching techniques and how to appeal to various learning styles. Collaborate with colleagues and leadership to provide the best educational and personal growth opportunities possible. Help students learn how to be self-disciplined and respectful contributors to their classroom, family, and community. Recommend additional or alternative learning opportunities for children who need additional support. Meet with parents and keep them up to date with their children’s progress. Keep regular records, including school papers, grades, special projects, and report cards. Ensure students are properly prepared for standardize tests. Participate in regular training and licensing to keep knowledge and credentials up to date.
Skills and Attributes:
Excellent teaching, writing, and communication skills. Proven ability to effectively communicate with students, colleagues, parents, and leadership. Familiarity with local, state, and federal education policies and regulations. Thorough understanding of how current learning and teaching styles affect education. Strong creative thinking, organization, and crisis management skills. Comfortable working with or learning common technologies, such as video conferencing, smart devices, online materials, and learning management platforms.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
A bachelor’s degree or higher in education or a related field. Recent teaching experience as a teacher or a similar role. Valid FLDOE teaching certificate, or the eligibility to acquire in the State of Florida. (On-site certification support is provided for all teachers new to Odyssey.) Proven commitment to student welfare and educational excellence. Montessori certification is a plus, but not required.
