Closing Date 06/30/2025 General Definition of Work The instructional associate, under general supervision, performs support work with minimal decision-making discretion supporting assigned expanded impact teacher(s) (EIT) and instructing students individually or in small groups to reinforce instruction, monitor performance and support learning. Position encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic goals by creating a classroom environment conducive to learning. Employee performs school-based work to carry-out Board of Education policies under the direction of the principal. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time. Essential Functions Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and procedures
Assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers
Collaborate with EIT(s) in creating tailored strategies, leveraging technology as appropriate, to address each student’s unique needs
Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums, or on field trips
Enforce administration policies and rules governing students
Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts
Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage
Observe student’s performance and records relevant data to assess progress
Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using agreed upon methods of delivery (whole groups, small groups, and/or individual support)
Assist with checking materials and portfolios, correcting papers, supervising, and testing as directed by the teacher
Assist with student attendance procedures, record keeping, collecting money, organizing classroom learning spaces, and ordering materials
Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations for their assigned classroom(s)
Participate in the daily bus, car and van transportation duties involving children’s arrival and departure to and from schools
Participate in professional development and other meetings
Perform related work as assigned or required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge of the principles, standards, and expectations of curriculum in assigned area
Knowledge of and understanding of various learning styles, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, and research related to learning
Ability to learn and use specialized tools, equipment or software related to business needs

Additional Job Information Education and Experience At least one of the following below that has been completed required:
Associate’s degree
Two years of higher education equivalent to 48 credit hours
Ability to pass a formal assessment (WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training)
Completion of the NC Department of Labor (DOL) Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with children preferred Special Requirements Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license or ability to provide own transportation
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment is performed in classroom setting and requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
Work requires the occasional exertion of up to ten pounds of force
Work regularly requires exchange of accurate and detailed information through oral and written communication
Constantly operates a computer and other office business equipment
Ability to remain in stationary position for required meetings/work
Ability to move to other work locations
Visual acuity requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities
