PRINCIPAL FUNCTION
The teacher is the member of the school system with the greatest interaction with children. It is the teacher who bears the primary responsibility for carrying out the aims and objectives of the educational program. The attitudes, skills and abilities of the teaching staff to a great measure determine the probable success of the school program. To ensure the maximum teacher contribution, teachers must accept responsibility for planning as well as implementing education programs of the school. The teacher is responsible to the principal of the building to which assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work cooperatively with the principal, subject supervisors and other staff members to develop an integrated educational program for children.
Assess the attitudes, skills and abilities of children for effective teaching and learning each marking period as well as on an annual basis.
Provide meaningful, appropriate learning experiences for assigned groups of children including differentiated instruction to meet individual needs of children.
Properly refer to the IST process those children experiencing unusual difficulties.
Effectively implement IEP’s and the 504 plan of identified children using the resources that are provided.
Maintain a plan book as directed by the principal and submit plan book for review upon request. Have daily plans readily available for the use of a substitute in the event of absence.
Appropriately integrate technology into the teaching learning process.
Evaluate children’s progress as a basis for planning and reporting to parents.
Complete and record students’ progress on appropriate records or documents.
Maintain an accurate record of attendance for assigned children. Report and record absences as directed.
Maintain acceptable standards of discipline in the classroom which promotes learning and supports the school-wide discipline plans.
Provide immediate care and protect injured students until the services of nurse or other medical personnel are available. Follow building’s safety-emergency management plan.
Provide a stimulating learning environment.
Supervise the use of and account for school materials, supplies and equipment.
Perform additional duties such as lunchroom, bus, or recess as required.
Maintain and extend professional knowledge and skills through activities such as graduate study, participation in staff development, professional reading and other appropriate activities as defined in the District’s Act 48 Plan.
Support school programs and maintain a high standard of ethical professional conduct when dealing with associates, parents and other members of the community.
Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Pennsylvania teaching certificate in English 7-12
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUISITE SKILLS:
An understanding of the latest instructional strategies in academic areas.
Command of the basic skills and knowledge required for the teaching assignment.
Awareness of the need of children for a sense of worth and dignity, understanding and direction.
Ability to plan, organize and implement meaningful learning experiences for children.
Ability to work cooperatively with principals, coordinators, other staff members and parents.
Provide evidence of a desire to positively influence the lives of students.
