Summary of Job Duties:
The Department of World Languages, Literatures & Cultures in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas, invites applications for a non-tenure track Instructor of Japanese to start in August 2025. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment. This nine-month, non-tenure track instructor position will teach four classes per semester of Japanese language courses at all levels (beginners to advanced learners) and will assist in curriculum development in the basic language component of the Japanese Program and in administering the official Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT; an international certification examination authorized by the Japanese government) on campus. The position involves teaching in close collaboration with other instructors teaching the same class. The University is especially interested in candidates who can collaborate effectively and contribute to the excellence of the academic community. The initial appointment is for a period of one academic year. The opportunity for reappointment will be based on performance and continued need. For the annual renewal, candidates should provide at least one year of evaluations as instructor of record illustrating high quality teaching effectiveness.

Master’s degree in Japanese Linguistics, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field
Native or near-native proficiency in both Japanese and English
At least one year of college level teaching experience to English-speaking students as instructor of record
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in preparing students for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test)
