Primary Function of Organizational Unit The mission of the Department of Language and Literature at North Carolina Central University is to engage students in languages, cultures, literatures, linguistics, and writing. We foster students’ analytical and creative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and communication strategies to prepare students for their responsibilities in civic and professional life.
The department offers an English M.A., B.A.s in English, Spanish, and Interdisciplinary Studies, and minors in Spanish, German, philosophy, literature, and writing. We host the Spanish Club, the Ex Umbra literary magazine, the Eagle Creators Society, and several other student clubs and honor societies. Language and Literature faculty contribute to many interdisciplinary initiatives including Women’s and Gender Studies, Global Studies, Service Learning, undergraduate research, and Digital Humanities.
Our Spanish curriculum starts with elementary and general education coursework and continues through advanced undergraduate coursework. The undergraduate Spanish B.A. programs include a degree with licensure and a degree without licensure as well as Spanish and Hispanophone Africana Studies minors.

Primary Purpose of Position The primary purpose of this position is to teach GEC courses in first-year Composition. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to teach students with a variety of learning styles. Knowledge of Composition Pedagogy. Minimum Education/Experience M.A. in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred but not required. At least one year minimum teaching experience at the university/college level is required.
