FULL-TIME FACULTY – ENGLISH / AMERICAN LITERATURE

: .interfolio/103668 About the Bard Early Colleges Through a tuition-free, engaging college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, the Bard Early Colleges (BECs) help high school students, particularly those at risk of notpleting postsecondary education, access, afford, andplete college more prepared for the next steps in their academic or civic life or in their careers. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma.
The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic supports. in its second decade, the Bard Early College network serves over 3,000 students in five states and in Washington DC. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 3,300 A.A. degrees to its early college students. About the Position Bard High School Early College DC (Bard DC), a partnership between Bard College and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), invites applications for full-time faculty positions in English / American Literature, beginning August 2025. Bard DC seeks candidates with a specialization in literature of the Americas; expertise in African American, Caribbean, and/or Latino Literature is especially desirable. Expertise in the formal teaching of writing is also desirable. Position Duties Bard DC seeks educators passionate about their fields of study andmitted to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic backgrounds. The successful applicant must bemitted to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, andmittee service. A graduate degree in the field and college teaching experience is required; high school teaching experience, and/or experience working with high school-age students is desirable. Candidates must have prior K-12 experience.

Ph.D. in English/American Literature or related field (preferred); ABD and M.F.A. will be considered
Experience teaching at both high school and college levels is needed. Candidates must have prior K-12 experience. Interest in working with high school age students who arepleting a college-level course of study (desired) We are seeking candidates with a strongmitment to equity and social justice and desire to open up opportunities for underrepresented students Candidates must understand cultural differences and purposefully help to uplift ideas from underrepresented groups to improve the equity balance in education Experience with recognizing and amitment to reducing barriers to inclusion
