Job Summary The Department of Literature and Language at East Tennessee State University seeks qualified instructors to fill several part-time positions teaching English courses beginning August 2021 with some opportunity to extend to other semesters. Located in Northeast Tennessee between the Great Smoky Mountains and the Blue Ridge Mountains, East Tennessee State University is a state-assisted and Carnegie- classified Doctoral Research Intensive University of more than 15,000 students. It is a regional institution, serving east Tennessee, southwest Virginia, and Western North Carolina. The area enjoys a moderate climate and is well known for recreational opportunities like camping, fishing, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, fishing, and golfing, as well as for its many festivals, including Rhythm and Roots, Corazon Latino, Umoja, Little Chicago, Blue Plum, and Tri Pride. The Department of Literature and Language is made up of English, Foreign Language, Film Studies, and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies programs. The successful candidates’ primary duties will be to teach English courses. The courses that the successful candidates may teach primarily consist of 1000- and 2000-level courses. These are temporary positions, filled on a semester-by-semester basis with some opportunity for renewal; positions do not include benefits. ETSU is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The successful candidates should be able to teach Freshman Composition, Literature Survey courses, and/or courses in technical and professional writing. Required Qualifications Master’s degree in English with eighteen (18) graduate hours in English or Masters degree in related field with eighteen (18) graduate hours in English by employment start date. Preferred Qualifications Prior teaching experience is desired but not necessary. Salary $2700 per 3-credit course
