Job Description
The State University of New York at Fredonia is searching for a Lecturer in creative writing for the 2025-2026 academic year, with potential to extend through the 2026-2027 academic year. The Lecturer’s professional obligation includes advising and departmental service, which could include advising student organizations, serving on department committees, and contributing to departmental efforts to recruit and grow its Writing major. Candidates with experience in editing a literary journal, organizing a visiting writer’s series, teaching literature, and/or teaching in genres other than fiction or poetry are strongly encouraged to apply. Salary range:
$50,063 – 55,000.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Chair, the successful candidate will: Support our Writing Major, Creative Writing Minor, and Fredonia Foundations general education courses by teaching a 4/4 schedule that includes introductory, intermediate, and advanced undergraduate creative writing workshops, and a selection from among our other CW-focused electives; Teach courses in the campus general education program, Fredonia Foundations; Contribute to curriculum development and refinement; Provide academic advisement to students; Participate in committees and provide service to the department, college, university, and profession; Be aware of, understand, and follow all university policies. This is a full-time, temporary, position beginning Fall 2025, with a salary of $58,000. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Terminal degree (M.F.A., Ph.D.) in Creative Writing or related field; Evidence of experience teaching creative writing at the university level; Demonstrated commitment and ability to work with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and constituents in support of campus and department mission; Experience with instructional technology; Demonstrated commitment to the university, division, and profession.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Successful single-genre creative writing teaching experience (poetry, fiction, and/or creative nonfiction); Experience in teaching literature; Experience in editing a literary journal; Experience in organizing a visiting writers series; Experience in curriculum and/or program development; Interest in, and commitment to, community engagement and/or other forms of applied learning (such as internships or public service projects students can participate in); A record of publications and an active publication agenda; Ability to (experience with) teach(ing) a second genre of creative writing and/or ability/experience in an area of professional writing or writing studies; Experience teaching general education courses in high-need categories (American History and Civic Engagement, World History and Global Perspectives, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice).
