Internal/External About the Department What is distinctive about our Geosciences Department compared to many around the country is that we span the social and physical dimensions of environmental and resource issues, particularly in the urban context, and we conduct research and offer undergraduate and graduate degrees that reflect this important socio-physical approach. We have expertise in the social and environmental dimensions of water, environmental geochemistry and global climate change. We are also expanding our Geographic Information Science research and teaching to better represent and describe the complexity of social and environmental concerns. Position Description The Department of Geosciences at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA invites applications for a full-time non-tenure track permanent lecturer position in human-environment geography to start in Fall 2025. We seek candidates who will advance teaching and expertise in the areas of integrative conservation, environmental governance, political ecology, and environmental science and studies more broadly. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four classes per semester, at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The candidate will also be expected to mentor master’s-level graduate students, contribute to departmental and university service, and advance their own research agenda. Desired courses include introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in environmental science, human geography, and environmental conservation. Desired upper-level and graduate courses include political ecology and environmental governance, and a survey on integrative conservation in the 21st century. Required Experience Required Education A PhD in geography and integrative conservation is required by the start date. Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Demonstrable record of peer reviewed publications and scholarship
  • Ability to teach a diversity of courses across the social and natural sciences
  • Experience teaching and advising a diverse body of undergraduate and graduate students
  • Ability to contribute to departmental and university wide service initiatives
  • Regional expertise outside of the U.

S. South, but with a willingness to engage in place-based teaching and research in Atlanta Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate level.
