Detailed Position Information The University of Alabama College of Arts & Sciences invitesapplications for an Associate or Full Professor rank, tenured ortenure-track position at the interface of Artificial Intelligence(AI)/Machine Learning (ML) in Geography, with an expected startingdate in August 2025. Successful candidates for the AI/ML in Geography position canspecialize in any subdiscipline of Geography. The University ofAlabama Department of Geography and the Environment has strengthsin water resources, agriculture, global hydrology, naturaldisasters, remote sensing and UAVs, transportation, geomorphology,climate change and GIS, and the department has ongoingrelationships with the Cooperative Institute for Research toOperations in Hydrology (CIROH), the Alabama Water Institute, theUSGS Hydrologic Instrumentation Facility, and the AlabamaTransportation Institute. The successful candidate’s research willfocus on developing and applying AI/ML techniques in one of thesestrengths or at the boundary between geography and other naturalsciences. Additionally, they will be expected to take advantage of a new $96million High-Performance Computing and Data Center that will comeonline in 2024-2025. The minimum qualifications for this position are a Ph.D. orequivalent in Geography or a closely related field, scholarlypublications, and experience with modern techniques in AI/ML.Preferred candidates will have an outstanding research recordcommensurate with their career, including a national/internationalreputation with an active research program, a record of securingmultiple external research grants, and an outstanding record ofteaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
