Job Description

Instructor of Geology 4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 418 College St, Clarksville, TN 37040 Austin Peay State University invites applications for an Instructor of Geology position in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. This is a full-time, three-year, renewable position to begin August 2025. This position reports to the department chair. The department offers a B.S. in Earth and Environmental Sciences with concentrations in Geology and Geography. The Department currently consists of seven (7) tenured and tenure-track faculty and has considerable facilities and equipment including smart classrooms, rock prep. lab, petrographic microscope and fluid inclusion lab, chemistry and analytical labs, and an SEM with EDS that will be available for the successful applicants teaching and research programs. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Job responsibilities include teaching up to 15 credit hours of physical geology, physical geology lab, and possibly other introductory level courses as needed. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department in recruiting and other service activities. The candidate may also be asked to advise students and involve students in collaborative undergraduate research projects. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities .

Physical Requirements Sedentary Work:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Required Minimum Qualifications M.S. and B.S. in Geology (similar degrees will be considered with appropriate coursework). Experience teaching geology at the university level. Experience with incorporating active learning and engaging majors and non-majors in introductory courses is desirable. Commitment to undergraduate education and ability to work closely with students, faculty, staff, and administration is a must.
