Position Description The Half Graduate Assistant (.5 GA) will work 10 hours per week and receive up to 15 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 6 for fall, 6 for spring and 3 for summer. Overview
BSU’s Honors Program is at a transformative juncture, with the largest and most diverse cohort of honors students in our history and with strategic planning underway to transition the program to an Honors College in the next few years. The Honors .5 GA would be a key member of the team of faculty and staff program leaders, providing support to our 1,300 current honors students and contributing to the planning for a proposed Honors College. The .5 GA advances the program’s mission and goals through (a) equity-focused recruitment and outreach to current and prospective honors students; (b) culturally informed academic advising; © collaborative research and data analysis related to honors students’ experiences and student success; and (d) inclusive community-building and event-planning. Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include the following:
Provide near-peer academic advising to current and prospective honors students through individual appointments; open office hours in the CTL and in LGCIE, Pride, SAS, etc.; and email/phone communication.
Plan and carry out community-building programs, activities, and events for honors students, in collaboration with other programs (e.g., MRISJ, LGCIE, Pride) with a focus on creating a sense of belonging among diverse groups of students.
Conduct collaborative research, collect and analyze data, and create visual and written reports about honors student experiences and hopes, demographics/identities, retention and graduation rates, post-graduation goals, and other qualitative and quantitative research areas.
Manage the Honors Program’s social media channels (Facebook, Instagram) and digital engagement platforms (EngageBSU, BridgeNet), and create clear, accessible, up-to-date content that reflects our program values.
Assist Honors Program faculty and staff with projects related to advising and student support, community-building, recruitment, and honors graduation. Preferred Qualifications Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice
Experience in an Honors Program or Honors College
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Self-direction and strong organizational skills with a collaborative mindset (e.g., taking initiative and managing own tasks, balanced with willingness to seek guidance when needed and collaborate on a team)
Experience with peer advising or tutoring (e.g., tutor, peer mentor, camp counselor, coach)
Experience with or interest in event planning/coordination and building community
Ability to motivate others with positive attitude and enthusiasm for BSU and Honors Physical Demands This position does not include physical demands other than working at a computer for many hours of the day.
