Position Overview Primary Function:

Maximize faculty instruction time and the student learning experience by providing first-contact technology and computer support to faculty in all classrooms and teaching spaces, computing laboratories, meeting rooms, auditoriums, offices, and other University facilities. Assist faculty in technology platforms and their usage for learning. This position requires general supervision. Broad instructions, policies and procedures are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out daily assignments.

Full-Time Position Description Typical Duties & Responsibilities:

Act as a liaison between academic departments, information technology areas, and other University departments. Provide on-site “first-contact” support for faculty in responding to technology related implementations, procedures, questions, malfunctions and other conditions that require attention. Resolve or adjust any issues and promptly report to the appropriate department any items that require additional attention. Provide technical assistance to faculty using University supported software. Maintain electronic materials for departmental web pages utilizing content management systems and University templates. Serve as co-administrator of the University’s Learning Management System D2L/Brightspace, assist faculty with copying course content, combining sections, and designing course material. Serve as co-administrator of the University’s VideoRecording platform Panopto; assist faculty with recording, editing, and posting video content for courses. Work with the Center for Teaching assisting with pedagogy workshops, initiatives and other events. Provide technical support across campus for special events in auditoriums and other University venues. Develop and maintain favorable working relationships with faculty. Perform other duties as required.

Independent judgment and discretion are required in the application of standard operating procedures to the essential duties of this position.

On a daily basis: receiving requests for assistance, providing audiovisual equipment/operation support, and instruction.

Internal:

On a daily basis: receiving requests for services, providing audiovisual equipment/operation support, instruction and training, or production assistance; support for office/clerical assistance; and general support for day-to-day operations for classroom teaching.

External:

Periodically, as required: Special support for special events or meetings. Attributes of a

Successful Candidate Education:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

3-5 years experience in an educational environment, audiovisual equipment, and basic website design preferred.

Job-Related Skills:

Requires the ability to communicate effectively and positively with people having various levels of technical expertise, and the ability to interact well with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Requires the ability to quickly assess a situation and offer alternative resolutions when available. Requires basic computer literacy and knowledge of computing hardware and connections. Requires basic knowledge of the operation of standard office machines and office procedures. Prefer knowledge of audiovisual equipment for use in presentations and media production. Ability to work independently and follow oral and written instructions.

Working Environment:

Work is primarily performed in an office or classroom environment, teaching laboratory, lecture hall, auditorium, and other University facilities. The work schedule may involve nights, weekends, and holidays.
