Position Summary

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The instructor is responsible for the planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The instructor is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Northwest Shoals Community College campus as assigned. As a minimum, the related activities include instruction, academic advising, serving on variousmittees, participating in local, state, regional, or national professional activities and/oranizations. The instructor may teach at dual credit sites and/or perform other related duties as directed by the Assistant Dean of Health Sciences, appropriate dean level supervisor, or the President.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
At a minimum, the essential functions of the instructor are:
to plan,anize, and instruct courses/labs in-person on any Northwest Shoals Community College campus, dual enrollment site as assigned, and/or virtual instruction using the College’s learning management system and, as appropriate, distance education tools and software
to assist in the NAACLS accreditation process and assists in maintaining all applicable records, reports, and documentation related to accreditation process
to assist in requesting and maintenance of clinical sites each semester to ensure students are able to develop cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills
to assist in collecting and providing mandated student information for all clinical sites at the beginning and/or end of each semester
to demonstrate amitment to student success
to teach students the general safety practices necessary in a health sciences education environment. to teach students how to identify problems and make adjustment for optimal performance in a health sciences education environment to keep active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects
to provide safe and stable learning environment
to conduct class evaluations andplete other college evaluations in accordance with college policy
to keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading and posting of daily assignments, lab assignments, quizzes, and/or exams in the College’s learning management system
to plan each unit or lesson, as to content, method, andanization to make each class period meaningful
to ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled
to teach all classes according to an approved syllabus; to keep students informed concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements
to hold final exams at the time scheduled in the College’s semester schedule unless permission to deviate has been approved by the Division Chair and appropriate dean level supervisor
to rmend textbooks, instructional materials, and on-line theory and lab curriculum, including classroom and laboratory equipment and/or trainers, to the Division Chair or Dean Level Supervisor
to amodate differing student learning styles in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the College’s established ADA program
to participate consistently in professional development related to his/her field and current trends for in-person, on-line, and hybrid instruction utilizing the College’s Distance Education Office and Instructional Designer
to serve as an academic advisor to assigned students
to refer students to Student Services departments, as needed
to work closely with the director of the program on the development of annual budgets for approval by the dean level supervisor
to request material, equipment, and supplies as needed for the program.

to assist in the development of course offerings each term
to post and maintain office hours for student consultations
to participate in program and curriculum review and development
to assist inpiling and dispensing required reports in a timely manner
to actively promote the program through recruitment, retention, success, andpletion initiatives
to assist in establishing a work-based learning program for the program
to assist in thepletion of the institutional effectiveness plan
to attend faculty meetings, college assemblies, professional development and orientation activities, and other meetings as required by the President, dean level supervisor, or division chair
to be familiar with andply with college policies and procedures
to serve on and provide information to collegemittees as needed
to convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by college officials
to maintain accurate andplete scholastic records
Qualifications
Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, required.
Be currently credentialed by a nationally recognized and accredited agency as a medical laboratory technician or medical technology/clinical laboratory scientist/medical laboratory scientist, required. Three years of clinical laboratory experience, required.
One year teaching experience in the college setting, preferred.
Knowledge of education methods and administration. Knowledge of current ABHES accreditation procedures and certification procedures. Applicants must have documented ability to prepare for and deliver quality college-level instruction preferably using a multimedia format.•

Note:

If you are awarded an interview, during the interview you will be required to do a live teaching demonstration using technology in front of a panel searchmittee. You must bring your own presentation material to the interview.

SALARY:

Compensation is in accordance with the Alabama Community College System’s Salary Schedule D1 ($42,108 – $94,363 for 9-month appointment). An additional summer appointment may be available.
