The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research and teaching needs, as applicable, in the Department of Surgery. UAB has successfully completed more than 14,000 organ transplants since 1968, when we performed Alabama’s first kidney transplant. Today, our nationally ranked hospital – one of the busiest transplant centers in the nation – performs more than 400 transplants annually, including heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestine transplants, as well as multi-organ procedures. In addition to our focus on patient care, we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state’s largest metropolitan area.
