Position Details The Department of Physician Assistant Medicine within the College of Natural and Health Sciences at The University of Tampa is seeking an experienced educational leader and physician assistant to serve as Department Chair and Program Director for our Master’s Physician Assistant (PA) program. This role oversees both the Master’s PA program and the Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program. Our continuously accredited PA program enrolls 48 students annually and spans 27 months, with one semester of didactic overlap. Clinical rotations are based throughout Florida. This may be a tenure or non-tenure track position. Full time. Located in Tampa, Florida Position Overview The ideal candidate will be a proven leader in PA education, with strong communication skills, proactive problem-solving abilities, and responsiveness to faculty and student needs. Preferred qualifications A doctorate (strongly preferred). Experience as a PA program director (strongly preferred). Required qualifications Current or license-eligible Physician Assistant (PA) in Florida (must obtain within three months of hire). NCCPA certification. Minimum three years of higher education experience. Minimum two years of PA administrative experience (as Associate PD, Clinical Director, or Academic Director). Master’s degree required (as a PA or equivalent). Primary Responsibilities Administration (Reports to the Dean of Natural & Health Sciences, 100% FTE) Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the PA program and department. Ensure ongoing ARC-PA accreditation compliance. Oversee faculty recruitment, retention, and evaluation. Develop and manage the department’s budget. Lead curriculum planning, development, and assessment. Oversee program evaluation and continuous improvement. Participate in student admissions, screening, and selection. Teaching & Curriculum Development Provide student instruction and assessment. Ensure availability of remedial instruction when needed. Design and revise curricula to align with University of Tampa’s PA program vision. Scholarly Activity Maintain an active program of scholarly work (if applicable) Service & Leadership Chair the PA Program Evaluation Committee (PAEC). Lead faculty retreats and department meetings. Represent the program in state and national professional organizations. Serve on university committees, including the Graduate Council. Clinical Practice (Optional) The candidate may engage in clinical practice up to one day per week while retaining clinical income.
