Job Summary
The Summer Health and STEM Academy is a week-long commuter camp for high school students (grades 9-12) that provides an immersive experience in science and healthcare. Participants engage in hands-on learning in chemistry, biology, and health sciences, along with clinical simulations in patient care. The program is designed to expose students to diverse career opportunities in STEM and healthcare fields.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
Responsibilities
Student Mentor
Responsibilities
Serves as a mentor and role model for high school students, providing guidance, encouragement, and support throughout the program.
Ensure student safety and adherence to program policies, including behavioral expectations and campus regulations.
Facilitate student engagement in academic and hands-on STEM and healthcare-related activities.
Assist program staff with logistics, including attendance tracking, group supervision, and transitions between activities.
Promote a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that encourages student participation and teamwork.
Address minor student concerns and escalate any serious issues to program leadership as needed.
Lead or assist with icebreakers, team-building exercises, and group discussions.
Maintain professionalism and uphold the mission and values of Albany State University.
Qualifications
Current undergraduate student, preferably with a background in STEM or health sciences.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Dependable, responsible, and committed to creating a safe and engaging learning environment.
Must be available for training prior to the start of the program and for the full duration of the camp.
