Description The Dental Hygiene program in the Westbrook College School of Health Professions at UNE seeks clinical adjunct faculty to deliver high quality education and evaluation to students in their onsite clinic on the Portland campus. The selected candidate may have responsibilities in teaching clinical skills to undergraduate students in lab and clinical courses. Subject matter taught may include the following; dental materials, pain management, instrumentation and radiology skills, infection control practices, patient assessment, and other delegable duties in the State of Maine. The DH/UNE baccalaureate undergraduate program educates students to become competent licensed oral health preventive care specialists, providing patient care in both private and public health practice settings. The program also prepares students to become consumer advocates, researchers, educators, and change agents in the field of oral health. Responsibilities Delivers instruction in the school’s face-to-face onsite clinical setting.
Guides students in understanding the Standards for Clinical Dental Hygiene Practice and the Dental Hygiene Process of Care. Assesses students’ competency in the performance of steps in the Dental Hygiene Process of Care including; vital signs, intra and extra oral exams, dental charting, periodontal charting and diagnosis using the 2018 Periodontal Classifications, treatment planning and implementation, pain management, instrumentation skills, delivery of preventive agents, and re-evaluation/assessing patient care outcomes. Support incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor. Qualifications Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene, with Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in DH clinical practice
Commitment to undergraduate education and student success

Must be able to work independently and effectively interact with all individuals and teams in a professional manner

Understands the scope of practice for dental hygienists, and stays within these parameters while teaching in the UNE DH clinic
