DESCRIPTION
The Clinical Coordinator serves in a key role, reporting to the Respiratory Therapy program Director. This position will provide administrative and operational support for clinical assignments and program records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance. This position works collaboratively with college administrators, faculty, and staff as well as with healthcare facilities, healthcare providers, preceptors, and students to ensure high-quality clinical outcomes. Examples of Duties
Manages all aspects of the clinical placement process and ensures effective operation of clinical practicums by organizing, supervising, and evaluating clinical sites, preceptors & student outcomes.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Ensuring effective operation of clinical practicums by organizing, supervising & evaluating clinical sites, preceptors & students.
Monitoring student placements and clinical records.
Working with Instructional Specialist to ensure mandatory legal documentation (license verification, liability insurance, qualifications of preceptors, and preceptor orientation, etc.).
Securing and coordinating clinical placements for incoming and continuing students.
Managing communication related to clinical placement (notifications to students and preceptors, coordinating with faculty).
Coordinate regular assessment of students and clinical faculty.
Provides onboarding/orientation for preceptors and ensures clear objectives & expectations for students and preceptors.
Creates and manages assigned databases to ensure complete and accurate information. Compiles reports and communicates data to appropriate stakeholders.
Databases may include:
Tracking of clinical placements
Documentation
Legal verification (for students, preceptors, and clinical sites)
Tracking of student progress (including clinical hours, clinical experiences, and other related information)
Performs periodic records audits for the purpose of clinical consistency.
Maintains regular contact with colleagues, constituents, and preceptors at different clinical sites to ensure timely placement and to further relationships with partner institutions.
Participates in the preceptor recruitment process by building relationships, attending events, and utilizing other outreach methods to secure preceptors for students who require assistance. Interviews and hires clinical adjuncts.
Works collaboratively with administrative personnel on the program’s planning, evaluation, and implementation process to promote program effectiveness and growth.
Implements practicum concentration professional policies, standards & procedures. Maintains oversight of the professional behaviors and actions of students. Addresses practicum students’ academic and discipline issues with the Director &/or appropriate faculty.
Ensures efficient and effective student advising during clinical practicum with assigned faculty.
Ensures that practicum course syllabi are updated and posted in the appropriate forums.
Ensures adequacy of clinical evaluation tools and methods within the program to determine consistency with learning outcomes & objectives.
The Clinical Coordinator may be required to assist with lab, SIM, or clinical throughout the calendar year in addition to assigned managerial duties and responsibilities.
Participates in the development of goals, policies, and procedures for the program; and does related work as required.
Completes accreditation and regulatory reports.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
This position may require travel and a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
Maintain teaching course load in compliance with the college and accreditation workload policy
Qualifications
An associate degree (baccalaureate preferred) from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.
Licensing Requirement:
The Clinical Coordinator must:
A.) Hold a valid RRT credential and current North Carolina state license;
B.) Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with at least two (2) years’ experience in clinical respiratory care; C.) Has a minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching for an accredited respiratory care program, either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position, including, but not limited to, lifting, walking, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated equipment.
Working Conditions:
Typical campus environment. Must have the ability to lead instructor-led courses on campus and travel to clinic sites.
