Job Description

Coordinator/Instructor – Emergency Medical Services 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 630 S. Main St., Dobson, NC 27017 The position of Coordinator/Instructor is highly versatile and essential in the daily operations of the EMS program. This position leads classroom instruction and coordinates and implements all aspects of the didactic and psychomotor portion of the classroom and clinical areas. They will be responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, developing courses, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. The Coordinator/Instructor will also be responsible for quality instruction and effective participation and interest in the College’s affairs related to the Emergency Medical (EM) Program directives. This position will work to maintain program compliance with accreditation standards according to Surry Community College, NCOEMS, and CoAEMSP. This position reports directly to the EMS Program Director, who provides oversight of all EM Programs. This is a 12 month position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaching :

1. Provide instruction in all levels of Emergency Medical Program• courses as assigned by the Director. 2. Teach an average load of 12-18 hours per week during the program semesters. 3. Develop learner-centered lesson plans. 4. Employ teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles. 5. Incorporate, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in the classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments. 6. Create and model a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population. 7. Prepare, distribute and utilize instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate. 8. Update and revise curriculum to maintain currency. 9. Assist with appropriate assessments of student learning outcomes. 10. Under the supervision of the Director, evaluate course effectiveness and provide feedback for quality enhancement. 11. Maintaining equipment and supplies for courses. 12. Attend meetings, conferences and other functions as directed to maintain proficiency. 13. Serve as a student resource. 14. Complete other duties and assignments as directed by Program Director.

Coordinator:

1. Assist in the data collection, entry, maintenance of the EM Programs accreditation requirements with NCOEMS/CoAEMSP. 2. Monitor and ensure compliance with Surry Community College, NCOEMS, and CoAEMSP, program requirements. 3. Coordinate all continuing education courses at the ALS and BLS level in Surry and Yadkin County agencies. 4. Assist the Program Director with the evaluation of all Emergency Medical Programs, including adjunct instructors. 5. Under the direction of the Program Director, coordinate the classroom scheduling of all Emergency Medical Programs•. 6. Coordinate with the Director of the Center of Public Safety the use of available classroom and lab spaces. 7. Under the direction of the Program Director, coordinate all clinical sites and schedules for Emergency Medical Programs•. 8. Under the direction of the Program Director, coordinate the Preceptor schedule for Emergency Medical Programs•. 9. Work with the Program Director, to create, update, and enforce SCC policies and procedures. 10. Monitor and maintain the FISDAP Program. 11. Oversee the documentation and maintenance of student academic and clinical competencies. 12. Assist the Program Director in the development of the departmental budget. 13. Promote program classes in Surry and Yadkin counties 14. Verify credentials and evaluating other instructors as assigned by the Program Director. 15. Assist the Program Director with the evaluation and development to ensure Program effectiveness. 16. Participate in committees as assigned by the Program Director. 17. Under the direction of the Program Director, participate and coordinate all Oral Review Boards. 18. Participate in interviews for adjunct instructors. 19. Maintain all adjunct instructors’ records. 20. Serve as a resource to Emergency Medical Program instructors. 21. Visit classes and clinical sites as needed to evaluate/verify classes and/or clinical sites. 22. Ensure that all applicants for Emergency Medical Programs meet the required entry criteria. 23. Maintain a professional working relationship with the area medical establishments and other related emergency agencies. 24. Complete all Surry Community College’s required annual education. 25. Complete other duties and assignments as directed by Program Director. Emergency Medical Programs include Paramedic, Critical Care Paramedic, Advanced Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Responder, and continuing education courses.

Professional Development:

Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by: 1. Participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field 2. Maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation. 3. Participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies.

Administration:

Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include: 1. Maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces, including upkeep of assigned equipment. 2. Providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions. 3. Maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using FISDAP Program and/or other programs as assigned. 4. Complying with all applicable College, state and federal rules and regulations. 5. Complete all required Surry Community College annual education. 6. Maintain a clean and safe work area.

Student Support:

Provide an environment conducive to student success to include: 1. Conducting recruiting activities. 2. Providing academic advising. 3. Promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success. 4. Assisting students with the registration and graduation process. 5. Referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate.

College Service:

Support college-wide endeavors to include: 1. Collaboration with faculty and staff from other divisions/departments to promote communication, coordinate schedules and support student success. 2. Collaborating with educational partners, business/industry and/or external agencies as appropriate to promote the instructional mission of SCC. 3. Supporting collegiality and teaching excellence by actively participating in the professional development of new and veteran faculty (e.g., mentoring and peer observation). 4. Participating in extracurricular student activities/clubs. 5. Attending college professional development sessions, college/division/department meetings, graduation and convocation, as required. 6. Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem-solving, responsibility and teamwork. General Qualifications The Instructor shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy. He/she shall have demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned. The Instructor must be able to: 1. Multi-task 2. Respect Diversity 3. Ability to effectively implement and apply technology solutions. 7. Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor. Required Qualifications 1. Associate degree in EMS or directly related field from a regionally accredited college or university. 2. Valid NC Paramedic Credential. 3. Valid NC Level One Paramedic Instructor. 4. Three years of relevant field experience or closely related career field. 5. Instructor-ship for at least two of the following AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS and be available to obtain others within one year of hire. 6. Valid NC Driver’s License. Preferred Qualifications 1. Bachelor’s Degree in EMS or directly related field from a regionally accredited college or university. 2. NC Level II Paramedic Instructor. 3. Nationally Registered Paramedic. 4. Five years of relevant field experience in EMS or closely related field. 5. Post-secondary teaching experience. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Established for each Workforce, Technologies & Community Education program. Contact Director for specifics.
