Jan 30, 2025 Description The new Clemson University Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to lead the development and implementation of the basic, applied, and clinical immunology portion of the DVM curriculum. The primary responsibilities of this position are focused on teaching with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired. Academic rank would be commensurate with experience. The Veterinary Immunology faculty will play a vital role in developing and delivering the curriculum for the next generation of veterinarians for the state of SC. The integrated, team-taught curriculum (https://www.clemson.edu/veterinary-medicine/students/curriculum.html) will focus first on the healthy animal, followed by the diseased animal and then on clinical case management. Within this framework, this faculty member will provide leadership in the design, implementation, and oversight of course content related to basic immunology, applied immunology, and clinical immunology. This individual will also guide students in integrating these principles to enhance animal health and apply them effectively in clinical case management. Utilizing the classroom, lab spaces and teaching technology, this faculty member will provide students with applicable and clinically based education in these areas, preparing them to progress into more advanced coursework. Working collaboratively with other faculty and staff, the content in this course series will align with the coursework occurring simultaneously in the Clinical Skills and Professional Development courses in the DVM program. This faculty member will help ensure students achieve proficiency in all necessary pre-clinical competencies. The faculty member will also be expected to contribute to the research mission of the College and University by participating in collaborative veterinary or biomedical research projects. The CVM is currently seeking accreditation by the American Veterinary Medicine Association-Council on Education to offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree to approximately 80 students per cohort starting in 2026 (pending approval). The CVM plans to utilize a partial distributive model of clinical training for students. Its brand-new state of the art campus will reside in Pendleton, SC, near the T. Ed Garrison Arena, will house research and teaching labs, and utilize both ambulatory services as well as teaching sites at the Clemson University Equine Center, Lamaster Dairy Cattle Center, and other locations for education in the field.

Overview of the Position Reporting to the Department Chair and working closely with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the faculty member will:

• Create and deliver the pre-clinical (years 1-3) DVM curriculum as it pertains to basic immunology, applied immunology, and clinical immunology topics
• Develop and provide assessments in alignment with the overall competency-based curriculum.
• Collaborate with other faculty to ensure integration of knowledge and skills across courses and years.
• Serve as an advisor and mentor to DVM students
• Participate in collaborative biomedical and veterinary research
• Serve on CVM and campus committees as appointed or elected Additionally, the faculty member must have the ability to:
• Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, possess exemplary verbal and written communication skills, with exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Prioritize and manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and function independently with limited supervision and guidance.
• Work in partnership with faculty and staff across multiple disciplines and functions across the college and university.
• Participate in research and scholarship initiatives designed to improve educational and professional outcomes.
• Demonstrate a commitment to the core values of Clemson University. Qualifications
• DVM, PhD or equivalent
• Evidence of scholarly achievements, demonstrated through publications in respected scientific journals
• 2-plus years of relevant experience in veterinary or biomedical health science education Preferred qualifications include:
• Clinical veterinary or medical experience
