Job Description The University of Alabama School of Medicine, Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for a tenure track or non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery. The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical, research and teaching needs, as applicable, in the Department of Surgery. Our faculty are nationally-recognized experts in the field of gastrointestinal surgery and include board-certified minimally-invasive surgeons, colorectal surgeons, and general surgeons. We are home to one of the highest-volume academic robotics programs in the country and our bariatric surgery program is one of only 10 programs in Alabama accredited as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP®), a joint program of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The Division is nationally-recognized in surgical research and conducts both basic and clinical research to advance the surgical sciences and improve surgical care. The Division is also dedicated to educating the next generation of surgeons and houses a minimally invasive surgery fellowship and a colorectal surgery fellowship. The University of Alabama at Birmingham, one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System, is the only four-year, public university in the state’s largest metropolitan area.
