Job Summary The Director of Annual Giving is a strategic fundraising professional responsible for leading a comprehensive annual giving program that builds a strong base of philanthropic support for Tuskegee University. Reporting directly to the Vice President for Development and Alumni Engagement, the Director develops and manages multi-channel campaigns to increase alumni participation, acquire new donors, and grow annual philanthropic revenue.
The Director is responsible for managing all fundraising efforts related to gifts ranging from $1,000 to $99,999, building and maintaining a strong mid-level donor pipeline and supporting future major gift qualification. The Director also co-leads class reunion giving campaigns in partnership with the Senior Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement, serving as the fundraising subject matter expert in these efforts and ensuring that engagement is strategically linked to philanthropic results.
This role oversees direct mail, digital appeals, giving days, student and young alumni giving, and recurring giving programs. The Director partners across development, alumni engagement, and communications teams to ensure alignment with the university’s comprehensive campaign and institutional advancement priorities.
Essential Job Duties Strategy and Execution
Develop and execute a multi-channel annual giving strategy that increases alumni participation, donor retention, and unrestricted revenue
Manage annual giving campaigns including direct mail, email appeals, Tuskegee Giving Day, reunion giving, recurring giving, faculty/staff campaigns, and student philanthropy initiatives
Set annual goals for participation and revenue, and monitor progress against key performance indicators
Implement segmentation strategies for targeted outreach by class year, giving level, and donor behavior
Class Reunion and Mid-Level Giving
Serve as the university’s lead fundraising strategist for gifts between $1,000 and $99,999, helping qualify and advance donors into the major gift pipeline
Co-lead class reunion giving in partnership with the Senior Director of Alumni and Constituent Engagement, providing all fundraising strategy, case development, and solicitation tools
Assist in developing volunteer-led reunion committees and produce campaign materials to support class-based fundraising efforts
Collaboration and Leadership
Collaborate with the Development and Alumni Communications Manager, Manager of Donor Data and Digital Engagement, and other development colleagues to deliver coordinated messaging and digital campaigns
Work with gift officers to identify donors ready for increased giving or additional cultivation
Coordinate across departments to ensure student philanthropy programs are integrated into the alumni donor lifecycle
Reporting and Analysis
Track and report on annual giving performance, donor acquisition and retention, giving trends, and campaign results
Analyze campaign data to optimize outreach, messaging, and engagement strategies
Maintain accurate records of all campaign activities and outcomes using the university’s CRM system
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training) Bachelor’s degree required
2-3 years of progressive experience in annual giving, fundraising, or related development roles
Experience working with digital fundraising campaigns, donor segmentation, and mid-level giving strategies
Additional Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of Tuskegee University’s history, mission, and alumni community.
Understanding of advancement, fundraising, or alumni engagement processes.

Skills and Attributes Knowledge:
Proficiency in using CRMs and donor databases to track results and manage outreach
Skills:
Strong communication skills, collaboration skills, and project management skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); familiarity with fundraising or CRM platforms (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) is a plus.
Strong writing, and editing skills with an ability to produce high-ability materials for internal and external audiences.
Proven organizational with keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Experience managing or working with scholarship systems (e.g., AcademicWorks, Blackbaud Award Management, etc.) strongly preferred.
