Department Academic Affairs Opening Date 05/20/2025 Closing Date 9/30/2025 11:59 PM Central Job Description Alabama State University, Academic Affairs, invites applications for Assistant Provost. This position reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs and provides full executive support in facilitating, planning, developing, and implementing goals and objectives of the unit in its quest to deliver high quality and relevant academic offerings that meet the evolving needs of students. The Assistant Provost will work closely with academic leadership and non-instructional staff to lead, cultivate, and implement opportunities for improvement in the quality and outcomes of existing academic programs to meet the needs of today’s learners to better prepare them for graduate school and careers. Minimum Qualifications Must have an earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher learning and at least five (5) years of experience serving in an administrative role providing leadership and guidance, broad general management, and operations management experience with proven hands on leadership in an academic setting with multiple divisions or levels of highly ethnic and culturally diverse faculty, staff, students; knowledge of educational/governmental compliance and regulatory standards and other accreditation standards are required. The successful candidates must possess the following qualities: Have prior academic leadership experience. Have credentials to qualify for tenure. Have knowledge of the university’s basic operations, including its fiscal policies, and budgeting. The ability to support, promote, and ensure alignment with the university’s vision and values. The degree of trustworthiness and ethical behavior of an individual with consideration of the impact of consequences when making decisions or taking actions. Competencies in evaluation and institutional effectiveness. The capacity to create and sustain strong partnership and engage with administrators, deans, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders The ability to facilitate, prioritize, and complete projects as assigned by the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs. The ability to achieve objectives while ensuring the maximum use of resources to meet the objectives. Knowledge of assessment. Familiar with accreditation requirements, both institutional and Experience working with SACSCOC reaffirmation requirements is highly desirable.
