Job Summary:
As a member of the Division of Student Life and Success the Director of Student Success and Persistence (DOSSP) is a leadership role focused on developing and implementing strategic initiatives to improve student retention and graduation rates. This role cross functionally collaborates across departments to identify potential barriers to student success, coordinating support services, analyzing data to track progress, and collaborating with various departments to foster a supportive learning environment for all students. The Director of Student Success and Persistence will play a significant role in the Student Success and Career Exploration and Professional Development Center in helping students become gainfully employed. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive student success strategy aligned with institutional goals.
Lead and oversee the daily operations of the student success office or department.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks to measure student success and retention.
Develop marketing and retention strategies for the Student Success Center. Program Development & Management Design and implement holistic and innovative programs to support first-year and transfer students as well as other at-risk populations.
Partner with Enrollment Management Services to organize and create Orientation and 1st Year Experience programming.
Collaborate with academic departments to develop and integrate academic advising, tutoring, and career development into student success efforts.
Develop and maintain advising materials, including online resources, handbooks, and student information guides
Develop and oversee early alert systems to identify and support students at risk of academic or personal challenges.
Develop and implement a peer advising program for first year students.
Hire and supervise peer advisors and tutors. Collaboration & Advocacy Partner with faculty, staff, and administrators to promote a campus-wide culture of student success.
Advocate for student-centered practices and policies at the institutional level.
Work closely with Student Affairs to align support services, co-curricular activities, and engagement opportunities.
Collaborate with Dean of Students and Academic Deans to transform 1st Year experiences with matriculation to sophomore year.
Promote diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusiveness within the Student Success Center. Data & Assessment Analyze retention, persistence, and graduation data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Prepare and present reports on student success outcomes and initiatives to senior leadership.
Use data-driven insights to refine programs and strategies to enhance the student experience. Student Support & Engagement Serve as a resource for students, providing guidance on academic, financial, and personal challenges.
Facilitate workshops, seminars, and events focused on skills development, time management, and other areas of student success.
Collaborate in the development and implementation of activities to help students reach their employment goals (Internships or regular employment). Qualifications Education Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field (required).
Doctorate in a related field (preferred). Experience Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in student success, academic advising, retention, or a related area.
Experience managing and leading a team in a higher education setting.
Demonstrated success in using data to inform decision-making and program development.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Skills & Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships across diverse populations.
Expertise in student development theories, retention strategies, and best practices.
Proficiency in student information systems (e.g., Banner, Colleague) and early alert platforms (e.g., Starfish, Navigate).
Ability to think strategically and lead change in a collaborative environment.
