Job Description
General Description / Primary PurposeThe Assistant Director Student Financial Aid, under the direction of an Associate Director or above, assists in the design, development and implementation of departmental processes and/or programs. Recommends policies and procedures to ensure effective coordination of departmental programs. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid and is responsible for auditing, evaluating, and monitoring students financial aid records to determine eligibility for awarding financial aid programs and assist in retention.
Job FunctionProvides support to the Director of Student Financial Aid in managing Financial Aid process workflow and student eligibility, including Satisfactory Academic Progress and determination of degree applicable coursework. Determining and processing Professional Judgments.
Percentage Of Time 30Job FunctionPerforms federal/state mandated audit of parent/student personal financial data.
Evaluates students financial aid files against supporting documents, i.e. parents and students taxable income from federal tax forms, untaxable income, family household size, number in college, and assets of the family.
Processes in-house corrections for the Federal Student Aid Report (includes monitoring problems with the correction process and communicating them to the supervisor).Percentage Of Time 30Job FunctionDetermines eligibility for awarding financial aid programs (Federal, State, and Institutional) and resolves over-awards.
Assists with refunds and repayment calculation and process for all Title IV programs.
Percentage Of Time 20Job FunctionAssists the Director in the hiring, supervision, and evaluation of verification staff, provides oversight for and enhances office workflow processes and ensures accuracy of the data input into the system and disseminated to other constituent groups. Directly responsible for the supervision and evaluation of the offices 5 Financial Aid Specialists. Assists in training coworkers in various financial aid processes. Assists with public information and public relations events pertaining to financial aid. Prepares reports and responds to surveys.

Policy-making and/or InterpretationResponsible for interpreting rules and regulations governing all state and federal financial aid programs as established by audit reports, regulatory changes in Title IV programs and Federal Registers.
Program Direction and DevelopmentWill assist the Director of Financial Aid with developing and directing the financial aid processes and workflow pertaining to student eligibility, Satisfactory Academic Progress and retention.
Level of Public ContactThe incumbent will have frequent contact with members of the university community regarding student Financial Aid issues, particularly other Enrollment Services offices (One-Stop, Admissions, etc.), Institutional Advancement, and Academic Affairs.
