Position Summary The primary purpose of this position is to promote ZooTampa’s vision and mission by providing assistance overseeing, designing, developing and evaluating the implementation of Zoo School Early Childhood Education program. Your day to day Essential Functions (including but not limited to): As part of the core Zoo School team, this position helps implement the strategic direction and project vision in collaboration with Zoo School Manager and Vice President of Conservation and Learning. Provides supervision for the department, creates a motivating environment, implements departmental processes, policies and quality standards consistent with Zoo’s mission, tactics and strategic plan. Assists with overseeing budgets associated with Zoo School program including implementing cost-saving strategies and techniques. Assists with overseeing quality assurance of Zoo School programs with an eye towards learning advancements, program evaluation and guest services. Supervise Zoo School program personnel and directly reports to the Early Childhood Education Manager. This position is responsible for implementing the vision of the Early Childhood Education program at ZooTampa. Supports the Early Childhood Education Manager with implementation of plans and policies, daily operations including general HR needs, enrollment, parent relations/communication, curriculum standards and student behavior management. Supports the Early Childhood Education Manager with implementation classroom observations and assessments. Leads safety practices including ongoing playground inspections, maintaining emergency preparedness documents, transportation logs, first aid supplies and required drills. Oversee quality assurance of the Zoo School’s physical location. This will include the physical facility and promptly reports/corrects needed quality, repairs, safety hazards, or sanitation issues and Zoo School capital improvement projects. Provides excellent guest service to all internal and external customers. Any other miscellaneous projects/assignment as assigned.

Skills:

Must have excellent skills in educational programming and management, resource management, staff supervision, and customer satisfaction. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills for a wide variety of audiences. Must have strong organizational, research, and editorial skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft applications, internet usage, and have ability to learn Zoo specific software. Must have ability to manage multiple projects at one time and complete in a timely manner. Ability to provide a high level of service to Zoo visitors, program participants and Zoo staff. Ability to take initiative, produce work independently, and act on behalf of a team. Highly motivated and organized with high energy and a positive, team player attitude. Translates and coaches in conflicts and problem solving. Must have the ability to physically and mentally maintain control during emergencies that may arise. What are we looking for?

Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Environmental Education or related fields required.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:

Must have 45-clock hours, CPR, First Aid. Prior work experience at a child development center, zoo, aquarium, wildlife park, or science center preferred. Within one year obtain the Department of Children’s and Families Directors Credential. Minimum of one (1) year experience in supervision of staff. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with classroom management. Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrate ability to perform the required duties.

Other Requirements:

Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and Florida Department of Children and Families Child Care Licensing guidelines in regards to, and in addition to, all relevant laws and regulations, safety protocols, and animal/child welfare. Expectation to continue training and stay current with developments in the profession with a minimum of twelve (12) in-service hours annually. Our Perks at
