Summary The housing, Residence Life & Student Conduct department at Barry University is seeking a Residence Coordinator. This position is responsible for providing direction, coordination and supervision of 9-15 Resident Assistants; and for administering between 300 – 600 beds spread throughout several residence halls. The Residence Coordinator provides student leadership development and service-learning programs, and participates in campus and community organizations. This position also serves in a collaborative role with other HRL&C staff in the overall development of departmental programs, services, and operations. This is a full time, 12-month, live-in, professional position. This position is also actively involved with Student Development divisional programs and initiatives. Essential Functions Supervises Resident Assistants Conducts one on one meetings Performance Evaluations Evaluates programming requests and helps Resident Assistants assess needs of residents. Ensures programming directly ties into strategic plan of the division of student affairs along with the mission and core commitments of the university. allocates programming funds Assist with selecting, training, and in-service activities for Resident Assistants. Supervises and manages building operations of Residence Halls Conduct and supervise Health and Safety Inspections Conduct weekly area walk through of facilities Safety and Security Equipment Work directly with Facilities Management regarding work orders and maintenance and Custodial issues. Responsible for the administration of departmental wide programming efforts in the form of “All Hall” programs, as well as adhering to the departmental programming model. Serves in a collaborative role with other Housing and Residence Life (HRL) staff in the overall development of departmental programs, services and operations. Provides On call Duty Coverage Primary response for emergencies on campus Rotate on call coverage with other Residence Coordinators, on call coverage to include holidays, weekends, and summer sessions. Work effectively with different constituents regarding emergencies such as Public Safety, Facilities Management and Miami Shores Police. Assists in the management of student behavior through conducting student conduct hearings and applying educational sanctions. Supervises Work Study Position (Desk Assistants) Hiring, training, and scheduling for Desk Assistants in Area Works closely with Human Resources in regards DA supervision This position regularly receives work assignments directly from others, in addition to the supervisor / manager, and list those position titles: Director of Housing and Residence Life, Associate Director of Housing for Business Services, Associate Vice President for Student Affairs. Qualifications/Requirements A Master’s degree in any field is required. A valid driver’s license is required. 1-3 years of work related experience is required. Basic working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations. Ability to articulate department policies to students, solve complex problems and make sound decisions based on available information Ability to analyze student and staff issues and understand university mission to utilize in applying educational sanctions, formulate training for staff, and gear programming model to fit. Ability to formulate relevant training programs for Resident Assistants as well Ability to apply knowledge and skills in developing and managing RA selection process, and to formulate and implement effect evaluations for Resident Assistants. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, proficient in Judicial Officer software and other Housing Software Systems. Compose correspondence to students, parents, faculty and staff. Be able to operate a computer, golf cart and motor-vehicle. Be able to communicate effectively with parents, students, and other outside constituents regarding a variety of issues. Works directly with campus ministry to ensure the religious dimension of the University mission is present in the halls.
