Residence Life and Housing Diversity Associate Director of Residence Life The Associate Director of Residence Life assists the Sr. Director of Housing and Residence Life in fostering a strong and positive sense of community among students living on-campus. This position plays a key role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a residential curriculum, utilizing a programming model aimed at increasing the holistic development of residential students living in campus housing. The Associate Director provides direct oversight for the recruitment, selection, training, and overall development of student and professional staff. This role also assists with the educational handling of Student Code of Conduct violations and works to resolve other student issues that may arise. The Associate Director participates in an “on-call duty rotation” and crisis response. This is a 12-month live-on position. Regular attendance at Resident Assistant and campus-wide programs, including evenings and weekends, is required. This position is designated as an essential employee and may be required to report to work as scheduled when College offices are closed due to severe weather or other conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

Directly supervises Assistant Director of Residence Life-Education and Assistant Director of Residence Life-Operations, indirectly supervises multiple Resident Assistants.
Coordinates training of Residential staff in support of both student development and institutional mission/goals.
Develops and implements a residential curriculum for programming initiatives to support student development, including but not limited to, intentional floor level programs, building programs, staff in-service training, large scale departmental programs, and other initiatives.
Ensures that the residential curriculum includes a focus on diversity and inclusion, wellness, career, and community engagement.
Responsible for student staff selection, training, development, and evaluation.
Works closely with the Assistant Directors to prepare housing facilities for student arrival and coordinates processing of room condition paperwork at the beginning and end of the academic year.
Assists housing operations with assignments, roommate selection, room selection, room changes, and contract management.
Assists with annual marketing efforts for housing and meal plans to new and returning students.
Establishes and maintains databases, programming reports, and evaluation of departmental goals.
Manages the mediating of roommate issues/conflicts and/or requests for room changes.
Assists with the residential PreCollege Perspective program, serving as the liaison to the Pre-College Office, working to create a positive residence life experience for participants, and other summer conference guests.
Responds as needed to crisis/emergency situations and serves as needed in an on-call capacity.
Serves as the primary recipient of departmental emails and coordinates timely, appropriate responses to student and parent inquiries and questions.
Demonstrates a positive attitude, builds strong working relationships, fosters a supportive team environment, and approaches challenges with a solution-oriented attitude.
Appropriately attends and provides support for evening and weekend student programs and activities, fostering a vibrant and engaging campus community.
Coordinates case management for those resident students needing additional follow-up and support as requested by the Student Care Team.
Serves on the Campus Programming Team.
Serves as a member of the Student Life staff team, assisting with other programs and activities as requested.
Participates as a hearing officer for student conduct cases.
Utilizes the Maxient reporting system for incident and care reporting and case management/response.
Performs other duties as requested by the Sr. Director of Housing & Residence Life.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Master’s Degree in higher education, leadership, college student personnel, counseling, or a related field.
Three years of experience in residence life, housing, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
High level of accuracy and pertinent computer skills, including database management and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Knowledge of Residential Curriculum Models and Student Development Theories. Preferred Three or more years of experience within residence life and housing programs in a staff or faculty role within higher education.
Proven track record of supervising graduate students and/or professional staff for at least one year.
Demonstration of progressively more responsible roles within residence life and housing.
Evidence of success in creating a positive and strong residential community, including the creation of a residential curriculum.
Demonstrated effectiveness in collaboration, supervising, motivating, and leading others with compassion.
Working knowledge of various social networking mechanisms for marketing and communication.
PHYSICAL
The position requires the ability to engage in physical activity related to active engagement in student activities – standing, carrying, driving, pulling, pushing, squatting, hearing, seeing, walking, and reaching. Additionally, the position requires the ability to read, problem-solve, manage stress, effectively communicate orally and in written form, manage multiple concurrent tasks, organize, reason, and handle frequent interruptions. Hours may be varied, with occasional workdays exceeding 10 or 12 hours. Evening, early morning, and weekend work may also be needed at times. Open until filled.
