Assistant Dean, Community Living & Standards

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Dean of Community Living & Standards provides comprehensive oversight to the residential student experience and strategic vision to support students’ holistic development and positive decision making as responsible citizens. In conjunction with the Dean of Students, supports student conduct and educational learning within the residential community.
RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Upholds the Flagler College Mission and Vision and supports the implementation of the campus-wide Student Affairs and Strategic Plan
Provides comprehensive leadership and vision for the Department of Residence Life, including operations, residential experience and education
Supervise, train, and evaluate Residence Life professional staff
Administers, implements, and interprets policies and procedures for residential student conduct in collaboration with the Dean of Students
Oversees housing management operations and occupancy to maintain and enhance student experience and retention
Indirectly oversee all opening/closing processes with Residence Life professional staff and additional campus partners
Allocates department budget in collaboration with the Vice President of Student Affairs
Serves as conduct administrator for allegations of minor to moderate student misconduct within the residential communities.
Assist the Vice President of Student Affairs and Residence Life professional staff to maintain a collaborative relationship with Enrollment Management, Facilities, Business Services, Information Technology, Marketing and Communication, Academic Affairs, Safety & Security and other Student Affairs offices/departments.
Serves as a visible and accessible resource in the residence hall community for student interaction
Develop, run and, and analyze reports relating to student satisfaction, and others deemed necessary by campus constituents Promotes an environment that is engaging, safe, conducive to studying, and well-maintained
Provides support and resources for students living on campus, and referrals when appropriate Develops monthly professional development for the Office of Residence Life full-time and student staff
Develops and implements student staff training that covers important topics for on and off-campus partners, involves best practices in the field, and fully prepares student staff for their roles as RAs and LRAs with the Residence Life professional staff.
Serve on an on-call rotation Serve on campus committees as deemed appropriate by their supervisors
QUALIFICATIONS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in a related field
Ability to collaborate and build relationships with students, faculty, and staff
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong management and organizational skills
5-7 years of professional experience in residence life, campus programming, academic support services, and/or counseling services. Student affairs experience with an emphasis on leadership development strongly preferred
1 or more years of advising students on personal and academic matters
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED
Ability to adjust quickly to changing needs on a daily basis.
Ability to apply strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
Ability to train and evaluate performance, taking corrective action as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time and occasionally walking and standing.
Climbing, walking, crouching, repetitive motions, and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues. Occasional hours outside the normal College work day to attend events, specifically nights and weekends.
