Job Summary Reporting to the President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs serves as the chief academic officer for the University, and provides academic leadership, guidance, resources, and bridges between academic units and other campus partners to create an integrated student experience. As a strategic leader, the Provost guides the academic direction of the University and unifies leadership to support teaching excellence and research. The incumbent is also a major spokesperson and advocate for the University’s commitments to academic excellence, related community engagements, and to its public purposes. The provost advises the President on matters of educational policy and development of the University’s teaching, research, and community service programs. Honors Program NOTE:

Responsibilities Responsible for institutional effectiveness, academic assessment, accountability, operation, direction, and supervision of all academic areas, programs, and personnel within the Division of Academic Affairs.
Remain abreast of and ensure compliance with University System of Georgia (USG) and institutional policies, procedures, and practices related to academic affairs.
Serve as the main campus contact in the absence of the President.
Oversee the educational policies, programs of instruction, and all matters relating to the effectiveness and development of academic programs; ensure the integrity of the University’s curriculum.
Provide leadership and direction for all academic programs and support teaching, scholarship, and creative activities.
Initiate and review curricular reforms in collaboration with the New Programs and Curriculum Committee.
Oversee the accreditation of the institution and its academic programs.
Develop and recommend the annual academic budget and ensure all academic budgets remain balanced.
Ensure fiscal responsibility for the use of all funds allocated for educational programs, including sponsored research funds.
Advise the President on personnel matters related to academic areas, such as hiring, promotion, and tenure; recommend promotion, tenure, post-tenure, and salary decisions to the President.
Collaborate with all areas within the university and serve as a member of the President’s leadership team/cabinet.
Collaborate with other senior administrators to create support systems for academic affairs.
Collaborate with the Vice President for Enrollment Management to support all enrollment management and recruitment initiatives.
Support the Division of Enrollment Management in student success initiatives to support the University’s mission.
Support and provide leadership for all student summer academic programs.
Support the President’s engagement and initiatives with the Faculty Senate Committee.
Develop and support the continuing assessment and improvement of all academic initiatives.
Actively support the recruitment and hiring of faculty to provide student-centered, industry-leading teaching environments.
Actively support the goals of excellence in all areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.
Monitor the operations and functions supporting academic programs.
Support professional development for faculty.
Promote shared governance.
Establish and maintain an academic performance matrix in accordance with USG initiatives.
Maintain a strong working relationship with the USG’s Chief Academic Officer and serve on the Academic Affairs Committee.
Ensure the collection and accuracy of data related to academic affairs and student engagement.
Ensure viable academic programs.
Develop new market-driven programs.
Establish a strong campus-wide culture of customer service.
Promote a student-centered learning environment.
Encourage excellence and innovation in teaching, especially through the use of technology.
Promote greater participation in the community.
Support external funding initiatives.
May be required to perform -related duties other than those specifically delineated in this description. Required Qualifications Doctorate from an accredited university in the candidate’s academic field
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in higher education administration
Three to five (3-5) years of administrative experience at the level of College Dean or equivalent
Proven record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to qualify for tenure at the rank of full professor in one of the departments at the University
Qualifications are supplemented by the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with attention to detail, deadlines, and making decisions
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
