SUMMARY:

The Associate Director will assist with the end stage of theGuinea Worm Eradication Programs (GWEPs) in one or more Guinea wormaffected countries, currently: Angola, Cameroon, Chad, CentralAfrican Republic, Ethiopia, Mali, South Sudan. The Associate Director will be based at headquarters and willassist the national eradication programs by maintaining thefrequency and quality of supervision of regional and districtprogram officers and field staff in areas under activesurveillance, and by assessing and assisting with the monitoringand evaluation of GWEP teams. The Director, Senior Associate Director, Guinea WormEradication, and the Vice President for Health Programs are theprimary providers of direction and guidance concerning prioritiesand action steps to be implemented regarding the eradication ofGuinea worm. The Associate Director also works in coordination with TheCarter Center’s Country Representatives (CRs). This position will report to the Senior Associate Director,Guinea Worm Eradication Program. Due to the travel locations, Hostile Environment AwarenessTraining (HEAT) will be required.

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Directs the planning, development, and operations of aprogram. Collaborates with representatives from private, government, andinternational agencies. Plans, executes, and monitors program budgets, includingapproval of expenditures; prepares annual financial and programreports to external parties with interests in the program. May engage in fundraising initiatives on behalf of theprogram. Ensures that the program is in compliance with federal andinternational laws and regulations. Oversees program communications, including development ofcommunications strategies, development of key program messages,production of print and electronic materials, and reputationmanagement. Represents the program in various national and internationalfora, and actively engages with representatives from other NGOs forpurposes of conducting research and designing new initiatives. May supervise program staff. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a field related to specific program asindicated and six years program related experience, or equivalentcombination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in a field related to the program(s) and fiveyears of program related experience, OR equivalent combination ofexperience, education, and training. A candidate would be preferred with a proven ability to worksuccessfully in sub-Saharan Africa, a track record of conductingprogram administration and field assessments, experience of projectmanagement including field teams and excellent communication skillsare also needed. French language proficiency required. Portuguese proficiency preferred.

Thisrole will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularlybut must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexibleweekly schedule based upon business needs.
