Oglethorpe University seeks a Student Success Advisor who is passionate about higher education and providing an exceptional student experience. Reporting to Senior Director of Student Success, the Student Success Advisor will provide foundational support in the development of a holistic, proactive, and strategic model of student development and academic advising. Focused on the implementation of high-impact practices, the Student Success Advisor will facilitate academic interventions and coaching designed to significantly improve retention, progression, and graduation rates, and help each student flourish and achieve the institution’s motto to “Make a Life. Make a Living. Make a Difference.”
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide educational guidance and coaching to assist students in developing meaningful educational goals that are tailored to their needs and consistent with personal interests, values, and abilities.
Advise students concerning schedules, major and academic requirements, academic support and campus resources, academic standing, experiential learning, and campus engagement.
Understand and interpret University policies and procedures as related to academic advising; work closely with academic affairs and serve as a faculty liaison.
Provide appropriate campus referrals, maintain a catalog of campus and community resources or services available; represent the Office of Student Success in recruitment activities and student support initiatives.
Monitor and track registration and academic performance metrics for assigned student populations as it relates to retention, progression, and graduation rates.
Assist in student academic and behavioral interventions through Early Alerts, and Petrel Assessment and Care Team (PACT) cases.
Support the ongoing assessment and best practices of academic advising and success coaching to ensure that these are aligned with student goals, needs, and institutional learning outcomes.
Support ongoing training and professional development activities for advisors and campus partners; adhere to and maintain academic advising procedural guide and training manual.
Serve on university-wide committees, attend events as needed, and support the integration of student success initiatives. Other Duties Participate in institutional planning processes, divisional meetings, and represents Academic Affairs on request at gatherings that include multiple functional areas.
Participate in major Academic Affairs and University events such as Orientation and Commencement.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution; master’s preferred
1 year of experience in academic advising, student affairs, or higher education administration; 3 years preferred
Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate openly, honestly, and respectfully with students, colleagues, and community members
Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite; advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel preferred
Familiarity with student information systems preferred
Knowledge of best practices in academic advising, specifically serving a diverse student body
