JobSummaryReceives and interviews patients to collect and verifypertinent demographic and financial data. Verifies insurance andinitiates pre-authorization process when required. Collectsrequired payments or makes necessary financial arrangements.

Performs all assigned duties in a courteous and professionalmanner. May perform business office functions.

Be the difference. Interviews patient or other source (in accordance with HIPAAGuidelines) to secure information relative to financial status,demographic data and employment information. Enters accurateinformation into computer database, accesses Sovera to ensure themost recent insurance card is on file, and scans documentsaccording to departmental guidelines. Follows up for incomplete andmissing information. Verifies insurance coverage/benefits utilizing onlineeligibility or by telephone inquiry to the employer and/orthird-party payor. Information obtained through insuranceverification must always be documented in the system. Assignsappropriate insurance plan from the third-party database; ensuresinsurance priorities are correct based on third-party requirements/COB. Initiates pre-certification process as required according toDepartmental Guidelines; obtains signed waiver for cases wherepre-certification is required but not yet obtained. Obtains necessary signatures and other information onappropriate forms and documents as required including, but notlimited to, Consent Form, Liability Assignment, and WaiverLetter. Receives payments and issues receipts, actively working towardcollection goals. Maintains cash funds/verification logs and makesdaily deposits according to departmental policies andprocedures. Prepares and distributes appropriate reports, documents, andpatient identification items as required. This includes, but is notlimited to, Privacy Notice, Patient Rights and Responsibilities,Patient Rights in Healthcare Decisions Brochure, Medicare Booklet,schedules, productivity logs, monthly collection reports, patientarmbands, patient valuables, etc. Communicates to patients their estimatedfinancialresponsibility.

Requests payment prior to or at the time ofservice. Refers patients who may need extended terms to the MedicalServices Payment Program and patients needing financial assistanceto appropriate program. Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/ManagementResponsibilities This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor,manager, director, or executive.

Minimum Requirements Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent OR post-highschool diploma/highest degree earned Experience
  • Two (2) years of Admissions, Billing, Collections,Insurance and/or Customer ServiceIn Lieu Of NARequired Certifications, Registrations, Licenses NAKnowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, database,data entry) Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier) Mathematical skills Registration and scheduling experience
