Job Description

Police Accreditation Manager Conyers, Georgia, United States | Conyers Police Department | Full-time by: No close date This position performs a wide variety of administrative, analytical, planning, and coordination of accreditation and certification activities to obtain and maintain compliance with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) Accreditation Program and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police State Law Enforcement Certification Program for the Police Department. Reviews a wide variety of complex and technical issues concerning CALEA Standards and the Accreditation Process, as well as State Standards and the Certification Process.
Meets regularly with the Chief of Police, key agency personnel, and others to identify needs and to report progress on accreditation efforts and goals.
Identifies new programs, systems, procedures, or equipment specifications for the improvement of agency performance in compliance with applicable standards.
Maintains frequent contact with CALEA and State Certification staff.
Attends CALEA conferences and local Police Accreditation Coalition Conference and networking meetings, and coordinates identified agency members to also attend as needed.
Maintains knowledge and expertise of trends, practices, and policies in local government law enforcement by attending related conferences and seminars; contacts state and national professional organizations and councils to research related information.
Keeps abreast of the accreditation/certification processes, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, transition policies, or process changes. Evaluates the impact of these changes on the agency and makes appropriate recommendations for change implementation.
Has access to confidential information and must be able to securely redact necessary information and maintain confidentiality. Provides accreditation training for agency personnel.
Provides information to the public and makes presentations to selected civic organizations.
Assigns, directs, and coordinates accreditation/certification workshops/groups to achieve plans of action, recommendations to the Chief of Police, or complete accreditation goals.
Draft, edit, and present written plans, policies, procedures, and directives that are in compliance with standards for review by the Chief of Police or his/her designee.
Conducts regular reviews with appropriate staff and revises department policy and procedures manuals as appropriate to ensure standard operating procedures are reliable, up-to-date, clear, and concise, and meet all current Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALES) and State Certification Standards, as well as legislative mandates and judicial rulings. Maintains master archive files for agency written directives.
Alerts management to anticipated CALEA changes. Identifies and verifies compliance with establishing law enforcement standards.
Maintains CALEA and State Certification files.
Conducts audits and compliance inspections throughout the department and on departmental operations.
Performs all elements required by CALEA for the position of Accreditation Manager.
Performs all elements required by State Certification for the position of State Certification Manager.
Requires the ability to work well with others and work well as a team. Identifies budget considerations related to the Accreditation/Certification process.
Conducts special projects and research assignments as directed.
Performs other related duties as required. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Public Administration, Business Management, Planning, Political Science, or another related field. A master’s degree is highly preferred. Georgia Law Enforcement Command College is highly preferred. Prior experience with managing and achieving both CALEA Accreditation and State of Georgia certification is preferred. Georgia P.O.S.T. Instructor Certification as General Instructor preferred.
