POSITION SUMMARY

The Provost and Chief Student Affairs Officer serves as the chief academic and student engagement leader at Dillard University. This role combines visionary academic leadership with a bold commitment to holistic student development. The Provost is responsible for driving innovation in curriculum development, academic affairs, and enrollment strategies while overseeing student affairs functions to ensure an inclusive, enriching, and transformative student experience. This includes spearheading efforts to build a groundbreaking and future-focused academic environment and aligning student support services with institutional priorities of equity, access, and student success. The Provost will champion a student experience that distinguishes Dillard University from the array of higher education options within the region and throughout the nation. All matters of academic affairs and enrollment management fall under the purview of the Provost. These include, but are not limited to: registrar, library, research centers, institutional research and effectiveness, certificate programs, continuing education, domestic and international study away, service learning, academic advising, academic support programs, family engagement, academic and enrollment strategic planning, annual budget preparation, housing and campus life, student success services, as well as the assessment of program outcomes, and institutional and program accreditation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Enrollment Management Duties Serve as the Chief Academic Officer for Dillard University.
Develop and sustain an intellectually rigorous community of scholars and learners.
Foster a strong faculty culture as a key member of the President’s senior leadership team with an emphasis on growing sponsored programs, grants, contracts, and external funding.
Maintain the academic calendar, the university catalog, scheduling of classes and examination periods, oversight of the academic advisement and student retention process, academic program reviews and accreditation compliance, maintenance of SACSCOC accreditation standards, and oversight of the tenure review process.
The Provost will provide strategic support to increase Dillard students’ engagement in high-impact practices of internships, undergraduate research, service learning, leadership development, and domestic or international study.
Ensure appropriate communication with prospective students regarding inquiries on course content, campus and student life, and scholarship opportunities.
In collaboration with unit leaders, develop and manage area budgets for academic and student affairs.
Create an environment that encourages and supports revenue-generating programs and initiatives, including sponsored programs, grants, contracts, professional development programs and certificates, and industry collaborations.
Conduct informational sessions (face-to-face or virtual) as required by strategic initiatives or requested by the University’s President.
Develop, implement, and evaluate programs to support family engagement to improve retention, persistence, and graduation rates, while maintaining a stable enrollment.
Serve as the staff liaison for the Education and Student Success Committees for the Board of Trustees.
Oversee and be responsible for the leadership, management, and direct supervision of the offices of Institutional Research and Effectiveness along with Records and Registration. Develop and promote an impactful integration of curricular and co-curricular experiences, including internships and professional development, undergraduate research, service and service learning, leadership development, and domestic and international study abroad. Academic Affairs Duties Serve as the Chief Academic Officer and lead efforts in curriculum innovation and program development, ensuring relevance and responsiveness to 21st-century challenges. Encourage, promote, and provide support for students, faculty, and staff engaged in sponsored research, applied research, theoretical research, and institutional research Increase Dillard University’s presence in the market and develop new recruitment, retention and outreach initiatives. 2. Develop and manage the academic and student affairs budgets. Collaborate with Advancement to identify and pursue funding opportunities for innovative academic and co-curricular initiatives. Work closely with the Office of Institutional Advancement and the Office of Sponsored Programs to identify potential areas for engaging faculty, staff, and students in sponsored research opportunities.
Collaborate with other cabinet members to develop robust study-abroad programs and seek funding to support globalization efforts.
Compile data and materials to prepare reports and summaries for board members and senior management.
Oversee all matters related to faculty recruitment, tenure, promotion, evaluation, and professional development. Work with advising staff and transfer services to streamline student enrollment and credit transfer processes.
Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and provide strategic oversight of assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts.
Promote the development of groundbreaking academic programs while fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration across departments. Student Affairs Duties Serve as the Chief Student Affairs Officer, providing leadership in areas such as student life, residential life, wellness and counseling services, student conduct, campus ministry, and career services.
Provide leadership to promote a campus environment of mutual respect, collegiality and regard among students and the workforce.
Lead a comprehensive strategy to support student success, persistence, well-being, and engagement.
Develop and assess co-curricular programming that integrates leadership development, civic engagement, service learning, and social responsibility.
Create policies and environments that foster a vibrant campus culture where students feel valued, empowered, and connected.
Advance mental health and wellness initiatives to enhance student resilience and success.
Ensure that student affairs policies and practices reflect best practices, compliance, and a deep understanding of HBCU culture and student populations. Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. or other terminal degree with a record of teaching and scholarship suitable for a tenured professor appointment in an academic discipline or combined with executive-level academic affairs and enrollment management experience is acceptable for tenure consideration Five (5) years of student services and higher education experience required preferably in an At least four years of related work experience at the Dean’s level or above.
Experience in recruiting, retaining, and graduating undergraduate and graduate students.
An understanding and an appreciation of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and their invaluable contribution to the global community is required;
Experience with HBCUs or MSI/HSIs.
Experience developing and overseeing academic programs that increase student access and enrollment.
Demonstrated experience fostering innovation in curriculum design and student engagement.
Demonstrated experience in regional accreditation is required;
Demonstrated skills in generating financial resources, including public and private funding; adroitness as a fiscal manager is required;
Demonstrated commitment to community engagement, fairness, and public service principles.
Demonstrated leadership fostering a climate for excellent teaching, strong scholarship, academic civility, creative endeavor, and ethical behavior.
Experience executing a strategic plan that encompasses communal priorities is required.
Experience developing and overseeing academic programs that increase student access and enrollment as well as elevating the University’s academic brand.
Experience with shared governance structures including managing personnel, and championing faculty matters. Preferred Qualifications
