05/07/2025 Job Summary The Academic Dean works closely with the school leadership team and the Executive Master Teacher in the management of curriculum and instruction. The Academic Dean works to achieve the academic priorities of the school by providing guidance to teachers to ensure content taught in the classrooms are rigorous and align with Louisiana Student Standards. The Academic Dean plays a critical role in driving student achievement and fostering a culture of continuous instructional improvement. The Academic Dean is evaluated by the Principal and the Executive Master Teacher. Responsibilities Teacher of record for a high school block (in either Science or Math). Serve as a resource to enhance teacher proficiency in implementing curricula. Informally and formally observe and provide feedback to teachers using the Louisiana Educator Rubric. Facilitates teacher collaborations for instructional staff (in both Science and Math) and provides coaching and exemplary models of instructional practices in teachers’ classrooms as needed. Provides direction to classroom teachers to ensure that the academic component of each content area is meeting expectations. Ensures quality assessments are given to students and align to ACSA pacing guides and LSSM standards. Reviews and edits course syllabi, supervising the collection and organization of student data and any other follow-up documents to ensure consistency of quality instruction. Attends assigned training workshops with ACSA, NOLA-PS, and LDOE. Carefully reviews all programs and materials for summer program(s) at the school site. Meets with teachers to set SLTs and ensures SLTs are entered on time. Participates in Instructional Leadership Team meetings at the school. Collaborates with the Executive Master Teacher to ensure exemplary implementation of the organization’s instructional program and curriculum. Develops content-specific pacing guides and ensures teachers are implementing instruction using the pacing guides. Assists district with the development of the Benchmark assessments. Collaborates with the Director of Academic Data to distribute academic data to school administrators and teachers. Assists teachers with tracking student results towards school level academic goals. Oversees the process of distributing/assigning academic resources such as materials, equipment, and lab and classroom space as requested. Executes the collection of equipment, materials, and documentation from academic staff at the conclusion of the school year. A stipends is paid for this role and in return for the stipend that is paid, academic deans are required to work a minimum of ten (10) additional days (5 days before teachers report and 5 days after the school year ends) and accomplish activities identified by the principals/Executive Master Teacher. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and Executive Master Teacher. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred. Valid teaching certification; administrative or supervisory certification preferred. Minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably in an urban or charter school setting. Prior experience in instructional leadership, coaching, or academic coordination. Deep knowledge of curriculum standards, instructional best practices, and student assessment. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to use data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes. Commitment to equity, excellence, and the success of all students. SLT and teacher evaluations that indicate high proficiency to exemplary results. Have a proven track record of working with diverse individuals at all levels to drive decision‐making and results.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit, walk, stand, talk, and hear. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (e.g., working at a desk or observing in classrooms). Frequently moves around campus, including walking between classrooms and standing for observations or presentations. Occasionally required to lift or move materials up to 20 pounds. Must be able to communicate effectively and exchange accurate information in person, by phone, and via email.
Work Environment:
The Academic Dean primarily works in a school setting that includes classrooms, offices, and shared meeting spaces. Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions. May occasionally work extended hours or attend evening/weekend events (e.g., parent meetings, school events). May need to travel between schools or campuses, if serving multiple sites.
