The Organization Founded in 2017, the New Orleans Career Center (NOCC) is an independent nonprofit focused on career preparation and technical training for five industry sectors: Healthcare, Building Trades, Engineering and Manufacturing, Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management, and Digital Production. The Opportunity The Assistant Dean of Students will play a pivotal role in supporting student success, with a primary focus on trainees enrolled in NOCC’s healthcare and culinary programs. Reporting to the Director of High School, this individual will support the Dean of Students to help cultivate a safe, professional, and supportive environment aligned with industry expectations. Ideal Candidate Profile 3+ years of experience working with high school students in an educational, counseling, or youth development setting. Skilled in positive behavior supports, restorative practices, and de-escalation techniques. Able to calmly and thoughtfully assess student challenges, make data-informed decisions, and take proactive steps to resolve issues. Able to build trust and maintain professional relationships with students, families, staff, and school partners. Demonstrates a deep commitment to student growth, equity, and well-being, particularly for historically marginalized youth. Key Responsibilities and Mindsets Student Support and Behavior Management Collaborate with the Dean of Students to address and resolve behavioral challenges and disciplinary matters using restorative, student-centered approaches. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized behavior improvement and intervention plans in partnership with the Dean of Students and Director of High School. Maintain consistent, proactive communication with parents/guardians regarding attendance, behavioral concerns, and student progress. Serve as a liaison between NOCC and partner high schools regarding student conduct, attendance, and overall engagement in healthcare and culinary programs. Campus Safety and Supervision Ensure the safe and orderly arrival and dismissal of students each day by monitoring entry/exit procedures and maintaining a reliable presence at duty posts. Maintain visibility and a supportive presence in hallways, classrooms, and common areas to reinforce positive behavior and professionalism expected in healthcare and culinary fields. Family and Trainee Engagement Conduct regular outreach to students and families to build relationships that support retention, well-being, and successful program completion. Partner with families, instructors, and partner school staff to address barriers to success, such as attendance issues, behavioral challenges, or personal needs. Documentation and Data Management Complete detailed incident reports in a timely manner and ensure accurate entry into NOCC’s discipline and behavior tracking systems. Support the Data Coordinator in collecting, organizing, and inputting data related to student attendance, behavior, and interventions. Instructional and Programmatic Support Serve as a substitute instructor when needed to ensure continuity of learning, especially in healthcare and culinary classrooms. Assist in the planning and implementation of program-specific events such as student orientations, industry visits, credentialing sessions, and recognition ceremonies. Reinforce industry-specific expectations around professionalism, teamwork, and personal responsibility in alignment with healthcare and culinary program goals. Professional Development and Collaboration Engage in ongoing professional development in behavior management, trauma-informed practices, and culturally responsive student support. Collaborate closely with healthcare and culinary instructors, school counselors, and support staff to ensure a holistic and aligned approach to student development and success. Additional Responsibilities Uphold and model NOCC’s Code of Conduct and culture-building expectations. Support emergency preparedness procedures and assist during crisis situations when necessary. Perform other duties as assigned to advance the mission of the New Orleans Career Center and ensure student safety, growth, and achievement. This role is supervised by the Director of High School. Compensation and Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
