Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars South Hamilton, MA 01982 • Hybrid work Overview Gordon-Conwell is a multi-denominational evangelical Protestant graduate school, unique with its broad array of over 2100 students and 200 faculty and staff from 98 denominations and 55 countries. Our four campuses include a residential model of education at South Hamilton, MA (our main campus); an urban context offering classes in five languages in downtown Boston, MA; adult educational models in both our Charlotte, NC campus and our offerings in Jacksonville, FL; and cohort models involving students from around the world. Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement, the Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement supports and engages Gordon-Conwell alumni, with primary responsibility for: regular alumni communications; planning and executing on and off-site alumni gatherings and events; and managing the alumni annual alumni giving campaign. The Assistant Director also shares responsibility for overseeing student workers. This position is based in South Hamilton; the incumbent may discuss hybrid work with the supervisor.

Primary Responsibilities Alumni Communications:

Cultivate engaged relationships with Alumni through in-person, online, and mediated interactions. Manage responses to incoming alumni requests and communications. Supervise and coordinate the gathering and sharing of alumni news and stories, as well as Gordon-Conwell news, events, and resources through the alumni website, newsletters, social media, and prayer emails Envision and implement additional ways to resource, serve, and engage alumni.

Alumni Event Planning:

Coordinate event logistics and communication for all off-campus denominational, conference, and geographically based in-person alumni events. Serve as host for some of these events. Work with the Director and the Events and Housing Manager to effectively design, promote, and facilitate individual and group visits or events on the South Hamilton campus, as well as virtual events.

Annual Giving:

Implement and manage all aspects of the annual alumni fundraising campaign, including promotion, communications, gift acknowledgement, and analysis; manage giving platform.

Other Responsibilities:

Oversee 1-2 student workers in relation to communications and event planning. Various other duties as assigned by the

Senior Director or VP of Advancement Required Competencies Communication Skills:

Must have excellent listening, writing, and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with interviewing, editing, and copywriting preferred.

Interpersonal Effectiveness:

Personal warmth, ease in developing relationships, exceptional interpersonal communication skills, and evident grace and thoughtfulness in relationships with a diverse constituency of alumni. Commitment to collegiality, diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communication with others.

Event Planning:

Must be able to facilitate on-campus events, and trouble shoot issues accordingly to ensure positive attendee experience. Communicate effectively and in a timely fashion with outside organizations, venues and vendors.

Organizational Skills:

Must be highly organized, able to manage time well, and accurately perform detailed work that may include competing priorities. Must possess sound judgment and the ability to work independently and also demonstrate an ability to collaborate and serve in a team environment that requires collegiality and collaboration with other seminary offices.

Knowledge and Discernment:

Must be sensitive to the varied needs of a diverse alumni population, have the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, and be capable of functioning effectively within a matrixed environment.

Technical Knowledge:

Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with social media platforms, email marketing software, and/or experience with website content maintenance strongly preferred. Clear understanding of the Seminary’s mission and willingness to abide by the Community Life Statement. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred; degree from Gordon-Conwell strongly preferred. 2+ years of experience in communications and event planning required; four or more years preferred. Professional experience with the major social media platforms preferred. 1-2 years of experience supervising interns or student workers preferred.
