Job Description

NORTHAMPTON

Deputy Title lX Coordinator & Civil Rights InvestigatorSmith College seeks an experienced Civil Rights Investigator / DeputyTItle IX Coordinator to support the College’s prevention of andresponse to discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct. Thesuccessful candidate will join the Civil Rights Compliance team in theOffice of the General Counsel. Reporting to the Director of Civil RightsCompliance and Title IX Coordinator, the Deputy Title IX Coordinator &Civil Rights Investigator (Deputy Coordinator) is responsible forhelping to ensure compliance with federal and state non-discriminationlaws, including those pertaining to gender-based discrimination andsexual harassment, and compliance with the College’s related policies.

The Deputy Coordinator is also responsible for assisting in theassessment, investigation and adjudication of discrimination, harassmentand sexual misconduct matters. The successful candidate will haveadvanced interpersonal skills, and excel at working in a community thatis broadly diverse with regard to age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomicstatus, gender and gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, andreligion. Minimum QualificationsEducation:

A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience:

Minimum of five(5) years of experience investigating, litigating, or otherwiseresolving discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct complaints(including Title IX complaints) in a college or governmental setting.

Significant investigatory experience is required. Experience inpresenting educational and training programs is required. Familiaritywith Titles VI, VII, IX, VAWA, Campus SaVE, ADA, Sec. 504 and relatedfederal and state laws is required.

Skills:

Strong organizational,interpersonal, writing and speaking skills, and the ability tocommunicate effectively within a college environment are required. Theability to work independently and as part of a team in a time-sensitiveenvironment is required. Demonstrated ability to develop knowledge of,respect for, and skills to effectively engage with those of variedcultures or backgrounds is required. Demonstrated ability to oversee andmanage caseload in a manner that ensures the prompt, effective, andequitable conclusion of such matters is required. Demonstrated abilityto maintain confidentiality, and support individuals in an empatheticmanner is required. Participation in the College’s efforts to create arespectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment is required.

Keyboarding proficiency is required. Computer application skills (wordprocessing, spreadsheet, file management, web page development andmaintenance) are required.
