Director of Athletics 3.8 3.8 out of 5 stars 1 College Circle, Bangor, ME 04401 Description Reporting to the Vice President for Student Experience, the Director of Athletics is responsible for the vision, leadership, ongoing development, and strategic planning of Husson University’s intercollegiate athletics program. The Director of Athletics has operational responsibility for Husson’s intercollegiate athletic programs in accordance with University policies and procedures and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), North Atlantic Conference (NAC), Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) and the Northeast Women’s Golf Conference (NWGC) rules, regulations, and policies. The Director of Athletics must be committed to promoting academic and athletic achievement in a manner fully integrated with the mission and vision of Husson University and the NCAA Division III philosophy. Examples of Duties Provide strategic planning, overall leadership, and direction of all Athletic programs integrating best practices and student success. Provides leadership and direction for the administration of the men and women’s athletic programs in accordance with the policies and procedures established by the University, the NCAA, NAC, CCC and the NWGC. Create partnerships to promote a positive campus community that is welcoming, inclusive, and supportive to all students. Provide leadership, direction and support to Athletic staff and coaches. Provide leadership, direction, and support for long-term strategic planning initiatives for all areas including renovation, construction, and maintenance of facilities. Provide leadership and collaboration with the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications for marketing, public/community relations and communications (including Sports Information, web site, media) for all intercollegiate sports programs and athletic events. Collaborate with the Office of Advancement in donor cultivation and stewardship activities, all fundraising activities and alumni and donor engagement activities. Liaise with the Eagles Club by organizing the coaching staff’s efforts and developing and supervising events and fundraising activities. Develop and regularly evaluate programs, services and policies to ensure student and campus needs are being achieved. Provide oversight and, when necessary personally serve as contact for students and parents needing assistance or support. Responsible for the Athletic Department’s funding requirements and the overall management and control of the approved fiscal year operating budget for all department finances. Provide leadership and supervision for athlete recruitment, selection, and assignment of responsibilities for all members of the department to meet the needs of the University. Develop and/or maintain a strategic recruiting plan in collaboration with relevant University partners to meet the needs of the Athletic Department and the University. Work collaboratively with colleagues and departments across the University. Develop and maintain relationships with external partners. Oversee programs in and operations for all athletic facilities, which include the Swan Center, Webber Pool, Newman Gymnasium, Winkin Complex, Boucher Field and O’Keefe Field. Oversees NCAA compliance of all student-athletes and the entire athletic program within the rules and regulations of the institution, NAC, CCC and NCWG. Monitor academic standards, procedures, and policies that promote the well-being of all student-athletes and provides oversight for STATS (Study Tables and Academic Training Services). Provide leadership and direction for all activities associated with Husson Sports Hall of Fame. Typical Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in administration of athletic programs. Comprehensive understanding of trends and financial models in NCAA Division III Athletics and higher education. Affiliation and active engagement with professional organizations appropriate to the position. Ability to provide effective leadership to promote collaboration and teamwork, effective conflict resolution, and advance innovation. Ability to organize, problem solve, manage and prioritize projects. Knowledge and understanding of athletic administration at the collegiate level and commitment to excellence in academics and athletics. Demonstrated experience in developing and managing a budget. Ability to understand and comply with university, state and federal, NCAA Division III, and adherence to FERPA regulations. Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to diversity, gender equity, and equal opportunity. Excellent written, public speaking and interpersonal communication skills. Supplemental Information
